Extending its portfolio in India, the Chinese EV-maker, BYD, has finally launched its all-new premium electric SUV offering, the Sealion 7 in India. Going by its name, the Sealion 7 shows a few similarities with the BYD Seal sedan in terms of design, however, it boasts a new cabin layout. BYD offers the Sealion 7 in two broad trims: Premium and Performance. Before we dive into more details, let’s first have a look at variant-wise prices:

The Sealion 7 looks sleek and aerodynamic, and the fascia reminds of the BYD Seal sedan, thanks to its LED headlights and DRLs. The sporty quotient is enhanced by the aggressively designed bumper and sharp lines and creases on the bonnet. In profile, it gets flush-type door handles and 20-inch alloy wheels (19-inch on Premium variant). At the rear, you’ll find more BYD Seal influences, highlighted by the connected LED tail lights.
Inside, the Seal’s interior is based on the black theme and the dashboard looks plush with the gloss black panel and a 4-spoke steering wheel. The seats, steering wheel, and armrest are upholstered in black leatherette.
Features on board the Sealion 7 include a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, electric sunshades, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, and multi-colour ambient lighting. It also features a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, an 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with 4-way adjustable lumbar support and memory function, a 6-way electrically adjustable co-driver’s seat, a powered tailgate, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functions.
Passenger safety is taken care of by 11 airbags, a 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system, rain-sensing wipers, an electronic parking brake with auto hold and level-2 ADAS.

While this premium SUV is placed in the price bracket of Rs 50 lakh In India, the BYD Sealion 7 will rival the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6 and the BMW iX1 LWB electric SUVs.
While the BYD Sealion 7 looks like an interesting proposition, it will be interesting to see how it fares against the other competitors in the segment. Nevertheless, this product is a testament to how serious BYD is considering the Indian market.
