The electric SUV should have more features and offer increased range

  • For reference, the UK-spec model gets cleaner bumpers, new alloy wheels, and the Astor’s lighting setup.

  • Cabin updates will likely include a digital drivers display, bigger touchscreen, and automatic climate control like the Astor.

  • The UK-spec model gets new 51kWh and 72kWh battery packs, offering a WLTP range of up to 437km.

  • Prices likely to start from Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

In October 2021, MG Motor had given the ZS EV a midlife refresh in the United Kingdom. Now, it seems like it’s the India-spec model’s turn, as the facelifted SUV was recently spotted in the country for the first time. And if the model sold in the UK is anything to go by, the EV should feature a raft of changes, cosmetic and otherwise.

While the model spied here was heavily camouflaged, its air vents and the silhouette were clear giveaways. Exterior design-wise, for reference, the UK-spec model does away with the faux grille from the pre-facelift model, gets the Astor’s headlight and tail lamp setup, and has cleaner-looking bumpers.

While cabin images have yet to surface, the facelifted ZS should be a straight lift from the Astor, including the premium soft-touch dash top. There are a host of feature upgrades on offer, including a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display (also present in the Astor), a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, and a tweaked centre console.

The facelifted electric SUV in India could get driver assists like the Astor, including active emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and blind spot detection.

Another big change lies under the hood. While the electric motor will likely be the same 143PS unit, there’s a 51kWh battery pack in place of the 44.5kWh unit. This has translated to a WLTP-claimed range of 318km (compared to the earlier 262km). Another value addition is the option of a larger 72kWh battery pack, capable of boosting the range to 439km. It also supports charging speeds up to 100kW, allowing a  0-100 percent charge in just 42 minutes.

Expect MG Motor India to launch the facelifted ZS EV in India in the second quarter of this year at a premium over the current-gen model, which retails from Rs 21.49 lakh to Rs 25.18 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Currently, the EV rivals the Hyundai Kona Electric and the Tata Nexon EV.
