Vespa India announced that it has extended its partnership with the RED organisation in India. In international markets, the Vespa 946 RED is on sale but for India we will be getting the Vespa 125 RED. The Vespa 125 RED has been priced at Rs 87,000 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). Piaggio, the parent company of Vespa India, announced that every sale of the Vespa RED will generate funds for the Global Fund grants that support the fight to end AIDS in India as Vespa will contribute a $50 (Rs 3,282) for every unit sold. $150 (Rs 9,846) was contributed from the sale of every Vepa 946 in the international markets. The actor Farhan Akhtar is the first owner of the Vespa RED and has also delivered the key to the first five customers.
Now you might be wondering what is RED? Well, RED is an organisation founded by U2 frontman Bono and activist Bobby Shriver in 2006 for the fight to end AIDS. Since then, it has raised more than $475 million (Rs 3,107 crore) for focus on supporting Global Fund grants. It has so far helped more than 70 million individuals globally. The money raised from Vespa RED in India will be given to a programme that is working to ensure that HIV+ women have access to the services they need to ensure their babies are born HIV free. Each Vespa RED sold can provide more than 165 days of life-saving antiretroviral medication.
