Pictures of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki YRA being tested has been posted on the internet. The upcoming Maruti Suzuki YRA will be a premium hatchback offering from the country’s largest car maker and will be positioned above the highly successful Swift. The styling of the upcoming premium hatchback is modern and has the European touch to it with its swept back headlamps, a dominating grill, sweeping roofline and a neat looking rear section. Unlike the previous test models of the YRA, the latest image shows that the day time running lamps have been fused into the projector lamps as opposed to the bumper which is a welcome change. The car was also running on 16-inch multi spoke alloy wheels which do look good. Also the larger dimensions of the Maruti Suzuki YRA mean it will be the widest hatchback in its segment and possibly the most spacious also.

While we couldn’t make out of the interior from the spy shots expect the YRA to be generously equipped. The upcoming premium hatchback offering will be loaded with GPS system, steering mounted controls, Bluetooth, steering mounted controls, touch screen infotaintment system, keyless entry etc. The YRA will be powered by both petrol and diesel engines. We expect the car to get the same 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel that does duty in the current Maruti Suzuki Swift along with more premium 1.4-litre petrol and even the larger 1.6-litre diesel engine that is rumoured to be coming in the new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and the upcoming XA Alpha/YBA compact SUV.
Fuel efficiency figure for the diesel mill will be around 27kmpl (claimed figure). The premium hatchback segment has witnessed lots of action in the recent months and currently is dominated by the Hyundai Elite i20 while the all new Honda Jazz will be launched next month. Whether the Maruti Suzuki YRA can make a mark or not only time will tell but it’s the Indian car buyer who is getting spoilt for choice at the end of the day. The YRA is expected to be priced around Rs 7 lakh with a possible launch by September, 2015.
