Triumph Motorcycles India teaser pic

Triumph Motorcycles India announced that it will be launching a new bike on September 18th. The British motorcycle manufacturer hasn’t divulged details about the new model apart from sending a teaser image; Triumph currently has 11 motorcycles on sale in the Indian two-wheeler market. A quick glance through its international portfolio reveals that it currently doesn’t have any sports tourer offering in our market which can be easily filled by the Sprint or the Trophy.

But the teaser picture that Triumph has released shows a cruiser motorcycle. We personally feel that Triumph will launch the Thunderbird LT (Light Touring) to strengthen its cruiser lineup in our country. The bike is based on the Triumph Thunderbird Storm. The styling of the Triumph Thunderbird LT is akin to that of a typical cruiser with loads of chrome, large fuel tank, swept back handlebar, wire-spoke wheels, white wall tyres and leather seats. Other features on the 2014 Thunderbird LT include a triple headlamp, quick-release windshield and removable leather saddlebags along with skid plates and an adjustable chrome heel/toe gear lever.

Triumph Thunderbird LT

Powering the Triumph Thunderbird is the same 1,699cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin motor churning out as found on the Thunderbird Storm churning out 95PS at 5,400rpm and peak torque of 146Nm at 2,750rpm. The bike has a fuel tank capacity of 22-litres and weighs 339kg. The new offering will be priced above the Thunderbird Storm and is expected to cost around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). The Triumph Thunderbird LT will rival the Harley-Davidson Fatboy in our two-wheeler market. For more details watch this space.
