Toyota has introduced a limited edition variant of the Etios Platinum with a price tag at Rs 7.84 lakh. The Etios Platinum Limited Edition (yes, the name is quite a mouthful) is based on the VX variant of the slow-selling sedan and is available with both a petrol and diesel heart. But more on that later. First, let’s take a look at what’s new on this limited edition variant.
On the outside, there are no major changes apart from the introduction of a new ‘Phantom Brown’ paint option. The sedan can be had in white or silver. Most of the changes are on the inside. The 3D textured fabric seats have been replaced with dual-tone artificial leather ones. The rear bench now gets a redesigned armrest as well. In terms of features, the limited edition variant gets a 6.80-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, aux-in and USB inputs. It supports voice commands but not Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
Under the bonnet, you can either opt for a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine or a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder diesel motor. The former puts out 89PS of power and 132Nm of torque while the diesel engine produces 68PS and 170Nm. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Toyota hopes it can prolong the life of this ageing sedan with these updates at least until the launch of the Yaris sedan, which is likely to happen in May this year. The Yaris is expected to be priced close to Rs 10 lakh and will take on cars the Etios could never have imagined competing against: the Honda City, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna.
