After two successful seasons, Toyota has now officially opened the gates for online registration for the third season of the Etios Motor Cup. Burgeoning racers can apply to participate in the 2015 Toyota Etios Motor Racing championship online on the Toyota Etios Motor Racing website.
Announcing the launch of the 2015 season Akitoshi Takemura, Senior Vice President- Toyota Planning & Strategy Group & Senior Managing Coordinator, Toyota Sales Group, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said “After two successful seasons of Etios Motor Racing in India, we are delighted to open the driver selection for the new season. We have seen some very good talent in the previous seasons and we are excited to get some fresh talent onboard this season.”
While the online registrations have already begun, the on ground selection process will take place in May with the help of a Go Karting round. This round of selection will be conducted by six-time INRC Motor Rally Champion and one time Formula 3 (India) champion N Leelakrishnan who will evaluate the drivers on various parameters like driving skill, physical fitness and consistency in laptimes. Drivers who successfully manage to excel in both of these rounds will be eligible for a final selection at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore where in they will get the first taste of the Etios Motor Racing Car. The championship will be divided into two categories, with drivers under 28 years of age and over 28 years of age. This year Toyota will charge a fee of Rs 80,000 for drivers over 28 years and Rs 50,000 for drivers under the age of 28 years.
What’s interesting is, this time round, to encourage participation from women; Toyota has announced that selected lady drivers will get a 50 per cent waiver on the registration fees. In its third season, Toyota has been nurturing racing talent at the grass root level giving giving young motor sport talent a platform and grow on the race track.
