The last 7 days was filled with plenty of launches and booking announcements

 

This week saw plenty of launches from major carmakers in India. It kicked off with Maruti Suzuki launching the updated Vitara Brezza while Toyota unleashed its Mercedes V-Class rival, the Vellfire luxury MPV. Hyundai launched the Grand i10 Nios Turbo, whereas Ford gave the Endeavour a BS6 upgrade. The week also saw a couple of booking announcements. Here are the major talking points of last week:

2020 Maruti Vitara Brezza Launched

After Maruti Suzuki unveiled the BS6-compliant Vitara Brezza petrol at Auto Expo 2020, the carmaker has launched the SUV in India, with prices starting at Rs 7.34 lakh (ex-showroom). While its base variant is cheaper by Rs 29,000 than its BS4 counterpart, prices for other variants have gone up by as much as Rs 1.10 lakh. A 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine replaces the diesel motor. Ford Endeavour BS6 Launched

Next up was Ford India, that launched the BS6-compliant Endeavour SUV with prices starting from Rs 29.55 lakh (ex-showroom). In the BS6 upgrade the Endeavour now gets a new 2.0-litre diesel engine, producing 170PS/420Nm and is paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. It’ll be offered in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants. The new engine replaces the existing 2.2-litre and 3.2-litre diesel that won’t get the BS6 upgrade and are discontinued. Toyota Vellfire Luxury MPV Launched

The Mercedes-Benz V-Class luxury MPV finally has a challenger in the form of the Toyota Vellfire. It is sold at a price tag of Rs 79.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It is a 7-seater MPV that is offered in a single variant called the Executive Lounge and is powered by a 2.5-litre hybrid powertrain. It also comes with a majestic middle row and a host of features. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Launch

Shortly after revealing it at Auto Expo 2020, Hyundai has launched the Grand i10 Nios with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine option at Rs 7.68 lakh. It is available in the Sportz and Sportz Dual Tone variant. The turbo engine variants cost Rs 1.25 lakh more than similar variants of the hatchback with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Maruti Alto K10 Discontinued

The end of the month sees Maruti Suzuki bid goodbye to the Alto K10 after a decade long run. While the carmaker has updated most of its vehicles including the Alto 800 to BS6-complinacy, the Alto K10 was given as miss and has not been updated since 2014. The S-Presso will now fill the void left by the Alto K10 and act as the middle ground between the Alto 800 and the WagonR. To know more about the hatchback’s history, head here.

2020 Land Rover Defender and Skoda Octavia RS245 Bookings Commence

This week also saw a couple of bookings being announced in the form of the 2020 Land Rover Defender and Skoda Octavia RS245. Bookings for the Defender are open for a token amount of Rs 2 lakh with deliveries are slated to begin from August 2020. Prices start from Rs 69.99 lakh and go up to Rs 87.10 lakh (ex-showroom) in five trim levels. The Skoda Octavia RS245 bookings will commence on March 1 2020 at a token price of Rs 1 lakh. I will be offered at a price tag of Rs 36 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and is limited to just 200 units.
