Skoda's MissionL concept at Frankfurt Motor Show 2011

The MissionL, supposedly based on the Volkswagen Vento platform, is a concept car that divulges the look of the Skoda’s upcoming model. The five-door compact sedan will first hit the European markets along with Russia and China. The Czech Republic based manufacturer will have an exclusive version of the compact sedan for the Indian market. Keeping the primary values of the brand in mind, the company will make specific adaptations to make the product more market specific.

Bringing the MissionL into production is part of Skoda’s growth strategy till the year 2018. The company intends to increase its sales to 1.5million units by the year 2018. Commenting on the car Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, Board Chairman of Skoda Ltd. said, “Revealing the look of our new compact model, the MissionL shows exactly the direction our brand is going to take. The world premiere in Frankfurt gives a clear signal that ŠKODA is going full steam ahead now. We are going to present a new vehicle every six months over the next two or three years.”

Along with the MissionL, Skoda will introduce the Yeti in the Chinese market in mid 2013 and will produce the car locally. The brand is also looking at expanding its production in Russia with the help of Volkswagen’s partnership with local car manufacturer GAZ Group.

Commencing 2012 Skoda is also planning to manufacture the automatic twin-clutch gearbox DQ200 at its plant in Vrchlabí.

Skoda’s new approach to achieve its sales targets before 2018 is going to be an aggressive one and the MissionL may contribute to it in a major way especially with the markets it aims to target.
