With 2019 almost over, the focus in the automobile industry shifts to 2020, particularly Auto Expo 2020. According to early indications, SUVs and EVs will take center stage at the expo, but we are also going to see various sedans for 2020. Here’s a closer look at what is expected from Hyundai, Skoda, Renault and Maruti Suzuki at Auto Expo 2020:
Maruti Suzuki:
Maruti Suzuki’s showstopper at the expo will be its first-ever all-electric vehicle, the Futuro-E concept. It will also be showcasing various updated models. In terms of sedans, expect the carmaker to feature a CNG variant of the Dzire since it will be discontinuing diesel variants across its lineup.
Hyundai:
The Korean carmaker is expected to feature a couple of sedans besides the next-gen Creta SUV and the Tucson facelift. The first sedan slated to debut here is the Verna facelift that has been revealed in China. The India-spec sedan is expected to get updated exteriors, additional interior equipment, as well as BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines from the Seltos. The other sedan expected in Hyundai’s lineup is the recently revealed Aura that will launch on January 21, 2020. The compact sedan takes various design and interior equipment from the Grand i10 Nios hatchback and is powered by three BS6-compliant engines.
Skoda:
Skoda is set to return to the Auto Expo with a slew of launches and reveals. The carmaker’s sedan lineup will be the biggest amongst the manufacturers. Kicking off the lineup is the Rapid featuring a new BS6-compliant 1.0-litre TSI engine. However, the carmaker will ditch the existing 1.5-litre TDI motor once BS6 norms kick in. The new engine comes in two states of tune: 95PS/175Nm and 115PS/200Nm for the international markets.
The second sedan on the list is great news for performance enthusiasts. The Octavia RS245 is a more aggressive variant of the Octavia RS230 and will be limited to 200 units. Its 2.0-litre TSI engine will develop 245PS and 370Nm, mated to a 7-speed DSG and front-wheel drive. Other differences may include 19-inch wheels and minor cabin alterations. The last car is the Superb facelift that we spotted testing with changes like revised headlamps, tail lamps and alloy wheels. Interiors are likely to feature a digital instrument cluster and a bigger touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech. It could be powered by a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre TSI engine.
Renault:
Renault is expected to make a mark at Auto Expo 2020 with a host of debuts including the next-gen Duster, a new sub-4m SUV codenamed the HBC, as well as the City KZ-E. On the sedan front, the French carmaker could reveal a compact sedan to take on the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. It is likely to be an India-specific sedan, with exports to Latin America and South-East Asia. We are yet to find out what it looks like, but we know the sedan will be based on the same CMF-A+ platform as the Triber. Renault may also showcase a concept iteration of the sedan with a launch possibly towards the end of 2020.
