As we know, the world is battling the newfound pathogen with some countries flattening the curve while others, unfortunately, failing to do so. With the global crisis in the picture, Porsche has stepped up and announced that it will auction the very last 911 (991 generation) to ever roll out of Stuttgart. Porsche Cars North America has joined hands with renowned auction house RM Sotheby’s for this. The auction commenced on April 15 and will be held until April 22.

The car in question is a beautiful 911 Speedster and the last one of the 1948 examples Porsche has produced. However, that statistic fades into the background as this is the very last Porsche 911 from the outgoing 991 generation. The Speedster serves as a testament to Porsche’s 70 years of existence. If you’re wondering, the Speedster is essentially a 911 GT3 with the body of a Carrera 4 Cabriolet. What makes it special is the rear deck that uses a special ‘double-bubble’ rear cover made of carbon-fibre.

Neatly tucked inside that rear cover is a fabric soft-top, which has to be manually operated. We suggest you hit Youtube and check out how it works. Somewhere underneath that is a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six that develops in excess of 500PS, married to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The car up for auction also features the Heritage Design package preferred plaque of the exact production number.

Making it even more special is the Heritage Design chronograph. This watch has a strap made out of the exact cognac leather used in the car's interior strap. It also uses a silver winding rotor that resembles the Speedster’s wheel. Handcrafted in Switzerland, the watch features the chassis number of the final GT Silver Metallic Speedster making it even more collectable.

Apart from the car and the watch, the winning bidder and a guest will be invited to Porsche AG Weissach research centre for a behind-the-scenes tour including a track test with heads of 911 and GT models.

A one-of-a-kind book describing the whole manufacturing process complete with detailed images will also be presented to the winning bidder. Lastly, Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of Porsche cars North America, will handover the car at a dedicated event in the U.S.

At the time of writing this story, the bid stands at $365,000 (Rs 2.8 crore) with 5 days left for the auction to close. If anyone with enough resources is reading this, we suggest you go ahead and bid on this car. Because who can say no to a standard 991 Speedster, let alone the very last of the kin!
