The all-wheel drive sedan is a whopping Rs 40 lakh more affordable than the GTS

  • The Panamera 4 is powered by a 2.9-litre V6 that produces 330PS and 450Nm.
  • The V6 motor drives all four wheels using an 8-speed PDK gearbox.
  • Porsche claims it can do 0-100kmph in 5.5 seconds.

Right after Porsche surprised us by listing the 992-gen 911 Turbo S on its India website, it has now added the Panamera 4 to its lineup.

The Panamera 4 is crucial to Porsche’s portfolio. Until the Panamera 4 showed up on the website, the GTS was your ticket to the Porsche sedan club. And an expensive one at that, with prices starting at Rs 1.89 crore (before you tick the options list). The Panamera 4 is kinder to your wallet by a little over Rs 40 lakh, starting at Rs 1.48 Crore.

Powering the sedan is a 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 engine that dispatches a healthy 330PS and 450Nm of torque to all four wheels with the help of a 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Although the Panamera 4 is the entry-level variant of the sedan in India, it is anything but slow. 0-100kmph comes up in 5.5 seconds (5.3 seconds with the Sport Chrono pack) while top speed is rated at 262kmph. These figures are more than enough to keep up with modern sports cars such as the BMW Z4 or a 718 Boxster,  pretty impressive considering it packs four seats and a humongous 500 litre boot.

If these figures don't impress you,  you could loosen the purse strings and choose from a sea of other variants such as the GTS, Turbo and the range-topping Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid as well as their Sport Turismo versions. Our pick would be the Sport Tursimo as it is obviously the better looking version and wagons are inherently cool.

As with any Porsche, the Panamera 4 is also available with a host of customisations options. Spending some time with the online car configurator made us realise that the Panamera 4 can set you back by Rs 2 crore if you tick the right boxes. This is also the fastest and most entertaining way to spend Rs 60 lakh which could otherwise get you a brand new BMW 530d M Sport. Good thing we don’t have that kind of money lying around.

Moving on to the equipment on offer, you get to choose between 15 alloy wheel designs with the most expensive one setting you back by almost Rs 10 lakh. Apart from the numerous colour and trim options, you get 8-way adjustable seats which can be replaced with 14-way or  even 18-way adjustable ones. Other options include the sport chrono pack, a panoramic roof, a Burmester audio system, rear axle steering, sports exhaust, a 90-litre fuel tank, ceramic brakes, and much more.

The Panamera 4’s key rivals include the Maserati Ghibli and the entry-level variants of the Maserati Quattroporte.
