All You Need To Know About The Mercedes-Benz V-Class Elite That Launches Tomorrow

Mercedes-Benz India will be launching the V-Class Elite luxury MPV—its latest and most-expensive avatar—tomorrow. This range-topping V-Class variant is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs 90 lakh (ex-showroom). The current V-Class was launched back in January 2019 and is available in two versions: long-wheelbase 6-seater Exclusive and a 7-seater extra-long-wheelbase Expression variant. Soon after, Mercedes pulled the wraps off the facelifted V-Class globally and we expect it to finally make its debut in India with the Elite variant. The V-Class belonged to a niche category until we got more information on the Toyota Vellfire that is launching soon. Here’s everything you need to know about the luxury MPV from Mercedes:

Exterior And Interior

You need more than a second glance to notice the changes in the facelifted V-Class. Up front, the bumper is new along with the grille. The side profile and the rear end remain the exact same barring new wheel design. The cabin gains some new elements such as the bigger infotainment system, turbine lookalike aircon vents, redesigned instrument cluster, new trims and an optional rear seat with full recline and massage functions. The V-Class is currently available as a 6-seater (LWB Exclusive) and a 7-seater (ELWB Expression). It is unclear as to which seating option Mercedes-Benz is considering for the V-Class Elite in India. That said, we expect the V-Class Elite to be offered in both the wheelbase options. 

Engine

Currently, the V-Class is available with a BS6-compliant 2.1-litre diesel engine producing 163PS/380Nm. The facelifted V-Class, meanwhile, uses a 2.0-litre engine in two states of tune: V 250 d with 190PS/440Nm and V 300 d with 239PS/500Nm. The new engine also comes mated to a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission instead of the current 7-speed automatic gearbox. We will find out tomorrow whether Mercedes will replace the existing 2.1-litre BS6-complaint unit for the new 2.0-litre engine.

Features

Current standout features are Nappa leather interiors, 360-degree camera, electric sliding doors, Agility Control suspension, ambient lighting, and a host of safety features. Apart from these, it is also expected to feature a Burmester sound system, Active Brake Assist, Highbeam Assist Plus, and COMAND online. 

Price

At present, the V-Class is priced at Rs 68.40 lakh for the V-Class 220d Expression and Rs 81.90 lakh for the V-Class 220d Exclusive (both prices ex-showroom). The Elite is expected to retail at around Rs 90 lakh. Its only competitor, the Vellfire is expected to be priced around the Rs 80-lakh mark.
