Mercedes-AMG has yet again teased us with the hotter version of its flagship sports car the AMG GT. The car is due for a full reveal at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The GT R will sit above the AMG GT S, which we tested a few months ago and came away very impressed with.
The teaser images reveal a lot about this hot-headed car, the first thing being the Hulk-like green paint scheme. There’s more droll material, like an aggressive body kit, probably derived from the track-only AMG GT3. Then there are the new front grille slats which are vertically placed and done up in a contrasting colour. The short tail of the AMG GT R is adorned with a larger rear wing to provide more downforce.
The changes are not only limited to the exteriors; well, of course not, it is a GT R after all. The car will shed a lot of weight as compared to the GT S which weighs 1,645 kilograms. The GT R, on the other hand, can be lighter by as much as 60kg.

The interior’s teaser image reveals some more interesting facts about this upcoming car. One can notice a darker interior layout with the use of non-reflecting leather, contrasting yellow stitching on the steering wheel and the yellow seat belts.
Under the hood, it will be powered by the same 4.0-litre V8 which is found in the GT S. However, courtesy of the restless blokes at AMG, the power could be in the ballpark of 580PS. In addition to this, this go-faster version will get a sharper throttle response, stiffer suspension, better brakes and gearbox. It might also feature active aerodynamics to make the best out of everything. Expect the car to produce some serious performance figures in terms of 0-100kmph runs and even top speed.
