Irrespective of what car you own and from what segment, one question that is sure to be on your mind before writing that cheque is ‘kitna deti hai’. And to get the best answer of this question, manufacturers spend millions of dollars in research and development. The Smart Hybrid Technology by Suzuki (SHVS) is the result of one such initiative.
Maruti Suzuki is expected add a hybrid variant to its Ciaz model soon. Although the new Ciaz Hybrid will continue to sport the same 1.3-litre Multijet engine sourced from Fiat, it will now come mated to the SHVS system. Shown at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, this system makes use of a lithium ion battery that gets charged with the help of regenerative braking. This system will convert kinetic energy into electricity which eventually gets stored in the battery and will help boost efficiency along with the start-stop system. There is no news of the same system being introduced in the petrol engine variants as yet.
Aside from all of this, the Ciaz might not get many cosmetic upgrades except for badges that will flaunt the SHVS technology. With the help of this technology, Maruti Suzuki expects the efficiency of the Ciaz to go up from 26.2kmpl to about 30kmpl. Needless to say all of this technology will come at a price. The Ciaz Hybrid is expected to be priced at least Rs 50,000 higher than the standard model.
