A fresh warrior joins Maruti’s SUV army, aimed straight at the Creta-Seltos stronghold.

Maruti Escudo a.k.a. Maruti Victoris Launching Tomorrow; Here’s highlights

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to add another arrow to its quiver of SUVs. On September 3, 2025, the carmaker will introduce its new compact SUV, expected to be named either the Escudo or the Victoris.

Positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara, it promises to be Maruti’s most direct assault yet on the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, two models that have long dominated this segment.

Maruti Escudo a.k.a. Maruti Victoris Design: Familiar, But With Its Own Identity

The Escudo/Victoris isn't attempting to explore an outright new design, but it does appear sharper and neater than the Grand Vitara. A more upright, taller position, thinner LED lighting, and reworked alloys aid it in cutting out its own identity. It will be slightly bigger than the Grand Vitara but will still be a two-row SUV, large enough for families without overextending.

Maruti Escudo a.k.a. Maruti Victoris Interior And Features: Premium Tilt

Within, Maruti appears to be aiming for a more premium feel. Look forward to a fresh dashboard layout, an increased floating touchscreen, and connected features such as wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. Luxury elements like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and a digital driver's display will enable it to compete with rivals that already feature these.

Safety is finally being moved further up Maruti's list of priorities. With six airbags as a standard feature, ESC, a 360-degree camera, and perhaps even ADAS, the Escudo/Victoris might emerge as one of the safest Marutis you can purchase.

Maruti Escudo a.k.a. Maruti Victoris Powertrain: Familiar Trio

Inside the engine, Maruti is not trying out much but providing options instead:

Engine

1.5-litre mild hybrid petrol engine

1.5-litre strong hybrid engine

1.5-litre petrol+CNG option

Power

103 PS

116 PS (combined)

88 PS

Torque

137 Nm

141 Nm (Hybrid)

121.5 Nm

Transmission

5-speed MT / 6-speed AT

e-CVT

5-speed MT

This spread targets commuters, economy-conscious buyers, and customers who desire strong-hybrid efficiency, who want something cost-efficient, while not going into the Toyota category.

The new product might also debut a dual-cylinder CNG configuration in Maruti cars, which promises not to compromise boot space, a minor change but creates a lot of value.

Maruti Escudo a.k.a Maruti Victoris Expected Price And Competitors

The Escudo/Victoris is expected to start from around Rs 9.7 lakh (ex-showroom), and unlike the Grand Vitara (sold via Nexa), this one will be retailed through the Arena outlets. That’s a smart move; it makes the SUV more accessible to Maruti’s wider customer base.

Competitors are the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and the upcoming Tata Curvv. They are all already well-known, so Maruti can't take any chances and underperform.

ZigSays…

The compact SUV market has long been Hyundai and Kia's playground, with the Creta and Seltos ruling sales like clockwork. Maruti has attempted the same before with the S-Cross, but it didn't resonate. With the Escudo/Victoris, however, Maruti appears to be catching up on past mistakes, mixing aspirational bits with Arena affordability, and providing hybrid and CNG variants that the competition doesn't.

If priced right (and Maruti usually nails that), the Escudo/Victoris could be the SUV that finally dents the Creta-Seltos duopoly. More than just another SUV, it represents Maruti’s intent to take premium buyers seriously while still playing the value card. Tomorrow’s launch should tell us whether Maruti’s newest warrior can stand tall on the battlefield, or just end up as another footnote in the compact SUV chronicles.

Are you excited about the Maruti Escudo or Maruti Victoris, whatever Maruti decides to name it? It could also be both, if both of them are launched together, one being a 5-seater and the other being a 7-seater, which could retail through NEXA. Share your thoughts!
