If you want to take matters into your own hands, your only choice is the 6-speed clutchless manual gearbox

  • Hyundai i20 Turbo to come with 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT.
  • Turbo-petrol engine will be offered in Sportz, Asta and Asta (O) variants.
  • The i20 can also be had with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines.
  • Prices to be revealed on November 5, could start from Rs 6 lakh.
  • Pre-launch bookings open for a token amount of Rs 21,000.

Hyundai will offer the new i20 with three engine options including a 1.0-litre turbo unit. But just like the Sonet, the i20’s turbo-petrol engine will miss out on a proper 6-speed manual gearbox. This might come as a disappointment to those who want to shift gears using a clutch.

Hyundai’s newly introduced 6-speed clutchless manual gearbox will be the only option for those wanting to shift gears manually in the i20 Turbo. That being said, it’s present in the Venue and the Sonet and we are pretty impressed with it! Read our first drive review of the Hyundai Venue iMT, where we put it through a series of tests to find out if it’s as capable as a proper manual gearbox. Unlike the i20 and the Sonet, the Venue Turbo is offered with a proper 6-speed manual gearbox.

The other transmission option with the i20 Turbo is the 7-speed DCT. Hyundai will offer the premium hatchback with an 83PS 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 100PS 1.5-litre diesel engine as well. While both engines come with a manual gearbox, the 1.2-litre engine can be specced with a CVT.

The new-gen i20’s USP though, without a doubt, has to be its lengthy feature list. Notable features include a 10.25-inch infotainment system with connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Bose sound system, a sunroof, cruise control, steering-mounted audio controls, digital instrument display, and a wireless phone charger. Safety should be covered by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and a rear view camera.
