The world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp Ltd, recorded its highest ever sales in May 2012, of over 5.56 lakh units, an 11.3 per cent increase over May 2011 sales.
“We have been setting new industry benchmarks month after month which is an indication not only of our progress in our journey but also the trust of our valued customers. The first two consecutive months of the new fiscal recording highest ever sales for the company has clearly been a great start for us,” said Anil Dua, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Hero MotoCorp. “Notwithstanding the slowdown in the overall economy and the prevailing sentiment in the country, we are cautiously optimistic that the expected normal monsoon and the consequent good harvest should peak up the mood in the coming months.”
While the four-wheeler industry showed a decline in sales due to the high excise duty on cars announced during the 2012 Union Budget, the two-wheeler market registered steady sales. Furthermore, oil companies hiked prices of petrol by 11 per cent, the highest ever increase.
