Can the BS6 engines and a nip and tuck change the WR-V’s fortunes in India?

Petrol variants of the Honda WR-V have received BS6 certification from ARAI. We expect the 1.5-litre diesel to be certified soon since the Amaze sub-4m sedan, which comes with the same petrol and diesel engines, has already been launched with BS6 updates. Since pre-bookings are now open, Honda is expected to make the WR-V’s launch announcement soon. It will get a mild facelift in addition to the BS6 updates. We expect a price hike over the BS4 model which retails from Rs 8.08 lakh to Rs 10.48 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Honda WR-V comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel. Despite BS6 updates, the petrol motor makes the same 90PS of power. The diesel engine in BS4 guise is good for 100PS and 250Nm, but these figures could change after BS6 updates.

In official teaser images, Honda showcased subtle updates to the WR-V’s exterior. The carmaker has reworked the front fascia with a new grille and front bumper. The SUV will also get LED projector headlamps with DRLs and LED taillamps. As before, it will also have a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an electric sunroof, push-button start, and cruise control.

Although the changes are subtle, the WR-V is likely to be priced at a premium over the BS4 model. Expect the price hike for diesel variants to be greater than that for the petrol variants. Once launched, the WR-V will rival other sub-4m SUVs like the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and the Tata Nexon.
