Expect the updated sedan to launch in India by the end of this month

  • It will be offered in four variants: S, S+, SX and SX (O).
  • Exterior changes include an updated grille, new LED headlamps, sharper LED tail lamps, and new alloy wheels.
  • Interior will feature larger infotainment, digital dials, Blue Link connected car tech.
  • It will be powered by three BS6-compliant powertrains with multiple transmission combinations.
  • Likely to rival the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, VW Vento BS6, the upcoming Honda City 2020, and Skoda Rapid TSI.

Hyundai India has already revealed the exteriors of the facelifted Verna, featuring many revisions, while its interiors have been spied. Now, the updated sedan has been spotted at dealerships ahead of its expected launch later this month. Bookings for the sedan are currently open for a token amount of Rs 25,000 through its official website or its dealerships. It will be offered in four variants: S, S+, SX and SX (O), with three BS6-compliant powertrain options and various automatic transmissions.

The leaked image reveals the 2020 Verna in a red body shade. It will also be offered in five other body shades: black, white, silver, grey and dark blue. We already know that the facelifted Verna sports Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design language with design revisions like a new cascading grille, LED headlamps with LED DRLs, dual-tone alloy wheels, a rear bumper with chrome inserts, and sharper LED tail lamps.

Interior spy shots reveal a relatively similar cabin compared to its predecessor, albeit with changes such as an updated 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and what looks like a digital instrument cluster. It will also get Blue Link connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted audio controls, a wireless phone charger, and a sunroof. In terms of safety, expect the facelifted Verna to retain six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera from its predecessor.

Under the hood, the Verna facelift will be powered by three BS6-compliant engines. The first engine option is a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol mill delivering 120PS and 172Nm. The second petrol mill is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated motor producing 114PS/144Nm. The final engine option is a 1.5-litre diesel mill good for 115PS and 250Nm. Transmission options are a 6-speed manual for the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel mills, with a 6-speed automatic for the diesel option and a CVT gearbox for the 1.5-litre petrol option. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol will be paired to a 7-speed DCT only and will be exclusive to the top-spec SX (O) variant.

Expect the 2020 Verna to launch at prices above its predecessor, which starts from Rs 8.18 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated sedan will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Vento BS6, the upcoming Honda City 2020, and Skoda Rapid TSI.
