The sedan bodystyle is important for India since it is seen as an upgrade from the standard hatchback. The year, the sedan category was strongly represented by the new Tata Zest, the Hyundai Xcent, the new Toyota Corolla Altis, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City. All the cars featured here were strong contenders for the title even though they represented different categories. The Zest and Xcent for instance went up against each other in the compact sedan category with strong petrol and diesel engines. Both these cars are big steps up for both companies as compared to the products that they used to sell in the same price category. The Corolla Altis too, takes the fight to the likes of the Skoda Octavia with its modern, fresh and young looks combined with legendary Toyota reliability.
The big fight this year though was between the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City. Both priced very close to each other come equipped with diesel and petrol engines. Both also come with petrol automatic versions and added features like a start-stop button and a sunroof. Both also look similarly elegant and offer about the same space on the inside and in the boot. Choosing a winner between the two will certainly be difficult.
