Priced at Rs 73.16 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 1.51 lakh more than the Wrangler Rubicon
Based on the Rubicon trim, retains all hardcore off-road features
Dressed in an exclusive ‘41 Green’ colour with a bold ‘1941’ decal
Powered side steps, dash cams, and all-weather mats included
Limited to just 30 units in India
Jeep has introduced a new variant of the Wrangler that is reminiscent of the brand's iconic heritage, meet the Willys '41 Special Edition, which costs Rs 73.16 lakh (ex-showroom). The limited-production vehicle is derived from the highest-spec Wrangler Rubicon and receives cosmetic and feature enhancements to recall the original 1941 Willys Jeep, the off-roader that gave rise to the brand.
Just 30 units of the Willys '41 Edition will be available in India, one of the rarest versions of the Wrangler available in the market today.
Based on the hardcore Wrangler Rubicon, Jeep's Willys '41 special edition comes for a premium of Rs 1.51 lakh. But only for that extra, Jeep has added a spate of high-end updates:
A retro-groovy "41 Green" paint scheme that pays homage to its military roots
Powered side steps to ease entry into this tall off-road vehicle
Dash cameras at both front and rear for enhanced safety
All-weather floor mats that keep the muck and the mud under control
That unmistakable "1941" hood sticker that's guaranteed to turn heads
Still want more? Jeep has you covered with optional equipment such as a Sunrider rooftop, roof carrier, and a ladder, although they'll set you back an extra Rs 4.56 lakh.
The Willys '41 Edition does not shortchange the hardcore off-road credentials of the Wrangler. Under the hood is a 2-litre turbo-petrol that produces 270 PS and 400 Nm of torque, and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It has a full-time 4x4 drivetrain with locking front and rear differentials, as well as an electronic sway bar disconnect system that increases wheel articulation for dealing with difficult terrain.
Step on inside, and the Wrangler's cabin is stil a mix of ruggedness and advanced tech. At its centrepiece is a big 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, balanced by chunky physical controls and hard-wearing finishes in keeping with its go-anywhere nature. There's plenty of room all around and great visibility, perfect for long journeys and hardcore off-road adventures.
The Jeep Wrangler Willys '41 Special Edition costs Rs 73.16 lakh (ex-showroom), a premium of Rs 1.51 lakh over the regular Rubicon variant, priced at Rs 71.65 lakh.
Although the mechanicals are unchanged, the Willys '41 Edition is worth the additional cost by offering unique cosmetic upgrades and feature additions that recall the original 1941 Willys Jeep.
There is nothing else quite like the Wrangler in India. Of course, you could consider the Land Rover Defender or the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, but those are much more expensive. The Wrangler, particularly in this Willys '41 Edition guise, offers a combination of heritage, off-road ability, and exclusivity at a (relatively) more affordable price.
If you're a go-anywhere kind of person and wish to own a part of Jeep's heritage, this limited-production Wrangler Willys '41 Edition could be the badge of honour you seek. But since only 30 units are available, better hurry, this one's more of a collector's item than most luxury SUVs.
