- BMW X1 M Sport petrol launched at Rs 48.9 lakh.
- It commands a Rs 3 lakh premium over the base xLine petrol variant.
- However, it’s Rs 2 lakh more affordable than the M Sport diesel variant.
- Gets a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and massaging front seats.
- Exterior and interior feature minor changes for a sportier look.
- No changes to the mechanicals have been made.
At launch, the BMW X1’s petrol engine was offered only in its base-spec xLine trim. If you want the top-spec M Sport variant, you have no other choice but to pick the diesel engine. However, BMW has given the petrol variant more choice by launching the top-spec M Sport variant with it at Rs 48.9 lakh (ex-showroom). Here’s where it stands in the BMW X1 lineup:
|
Variant |
Ex-showroom Price |
|
xLine Petrol |
Rs 45.9 lakh |
|
M Sport Petrol (New) |
Rs 48.9 lakh |
|
M Sport Diesel |
Rs 50.9 lakh |

The M Sport petrol model sits bang in between the lineup and commands a Rs 3 lakh premium over the base model, however, it’s still Rs 2 lakh more affordable than the diesel M Sport trim. Here are the extra features you get for the extra dough:
-
Massaging front seats
-
12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system
Also, this being an M Sport model means it gets sportier design touches such as revised bumper designs and M-branded alloy rims. On the inside, it gets a M-branded steering wheel and seats. These small design revisions do lend the X1 a much sportier look.

No changes have been made underneath the hood. So the X1 petrol gets the same 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine putting out 134PS and 230Nm. It drives the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In addition, the X1 can also be had with a 148PS 2-litre diesel engine as well.
The BMW X1 rivals the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Volvo XC40, and Audi Q3.
