The new-generation Mercedes-Benz GLC is headed to India with electrified petrol and diesel powertrain options

  • 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC to launch on August 9.

  • Exterior styling revisions give it a sleeker look.

  • Cabin gets a thorough rework similar to the new C-Class.

  • Will be available in two variants: 300 and 220d.

  • Is expected to carry a slight premium over the outgoing model.

One of the sales chart toppers for Mercedes-Benz has received a generational update and is headed to India. The model in question is none other than the 2023 GLC SUV, and it has been confirmed for a launch In India on August 9.  You can book the SUV for a token amount of Rs 1.5 lakh and it comes in two trims: 300 and 220d.

Though this a new generation, the GLC still looks very familiar to the model it replaces. Minor nips and tucks to the exterior styling have given the 2023 GLC a sleeker outlook. The sharper and slimmer headlights flank the grille up front, while you also get a slimmer set of LED tail lamps at the rear. It still remains easily recognisable as a GLC.

However, things are radically different inside the cabin. The interiors draw heavy inspiration from the C-Class sedan with a vertically stacked 11.9-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment system and 12.3-inch horizontally oriented digital driver’s display. The flow and design of the dashboard is very Mercedes, especially the turbine-styled AC vents and nearly integrated ambient lighting. The door frame houses the controls for the electric seat adjustment - another Mercedes design touch.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC’s entire lineup has now been hybridised. Markets abroad get mild- and plug-in hybrid options, but Mercedes has confirmed the 300 and 220d variants for the India-spec model. That means it’ll get the 258PS/400Nm 2-litre petrol and 197PS/440Nm 2-litre diesel engine options, both paired to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. A 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive will be offered as standard.
