Mercedes-Benz is set to launch the facelifted GLE in India tomorrow and here’s what you need to know about it

UPDATE: Mercedes-Benz India has launched the 2023 GLE facelift from Rs 96.4 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to capitalize on the ongoing Indian festival season with two new launches. One of them is going to be the C43 AMG sedan, but it's the GLE facelift that will mark its appearance at our shores first. It is set to launch tomorrow and we’ve got a few exclusive deets to share ahead of the launch event. Here’s what you need to know:

Design

No exclusives here as the facelifted GLE had broken cover back in February. Changes to the exterior design are modest for the most part, with a revised bumper, a new single-slat grille and updated LED headlight elements being the only changes up front. The profile is untouched, but you do get mildly revised bumpers and tailights at the rear as well.

Cabin

The changes here as well are few and far between. The dashboard layout is the same but you get a new steering wheel and chrome-finished air vents. The screens now run on the latest iteration of Mercedes’ intelligent MBUX infotainment system, while in true Mercedes fashion, the electric controls for the seats are housed on the door panel itself.

Apart from the updated MBUX, it will retain features like a 4-zone climate control, electric tailgate, wireless Android auto and Apple CarPlay, and electrically adjustable front and rear seats with memory functions for the former. Its safety kit will include multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control and a few ADAS features like blind spot monitoring and autonomous emergency braking.

Powertrains

This is where our wisdom comes into play. According to our sources, the facelifted GLE will come in three variants: GLE 300 d, GLE 450 d, and GLE 450. So there are going to be both petrol and diesel powertrains on offer and here are the specs for them:

The 300d variant will be offered with the Professional Line trim, while the other two will come with the sportier AMG Line trim. All of these are paired to a 48-V mild-hybrid system that helps boost efficiency.

Price and Rivals

The tentative variant-wise pricing for the facelifted GLE suggests that prices will start from Rs 97 lakh and go up to Rs 1.16 crore (all prices ex-showroom) for the top-spec model. The middle spec 450 could be priced at Rs 1.13 crore (ex-showroom). Prices for the current model range between Rs 91.2 lakh to Rs 1.08 crore (ex-showroom). The facelifted Mercedes-Benz GLE will take on the likes of the BMW X5, Audi Q7, and Volvo XC90.
