Upcoming Renault Duster Rival Nissan Tekton Revealed; Launching In 2026

Nissan has unveiled the design sketches for its highly anticipated upcoming compact SUV in India. At the event, the Japanese carmaker also confirmed that it will be named the ‘Tekton ’, which is a Greek word for ‘Craftsman’ or ‘Architect’. It will borrow design elements from the popular Nissan Patrol SUV sold globally. Here is what we know so far about the new Tekton:

Exterior: How Does It Look?

From the design sketches revealed by Nissan, you can see that the Tekton carries a distinct look despite sharing its platform with the global Renault Duster. At the front, it gets a connected LED light bar going across the width of the SUV and ending in the C-shaped signature of the headlamp DRLs. Below it lies a large rectangular grille with two slats carrying the Nissan logo. The front bumper also gets sleek vertical cuts on either side for better aerodynamic efficiency. 

Another notable element is the muscular shape of the bonnet to add that extra bit of toughness to the design.

Towards the side, one can notice 10-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels which lend it a classy stance, while at the same time you have pronounced and butch-looking flared rear fenders. The Tekton also gets a ‘Himalaya-inspired’ silver insert on the front doors for some distinction, while the rear door handle has been moved to behind the window to mimic a sporty two-door look. The Tekton also gets thick cladding and silver roof rails to drive home the SUV styling.

At the rear, the Tekton continues with the slightly boxy, yet sophisticated look with rectangular taillamps. Just like the headlamps, these too get connected with an LED lighting strip for a modern feel. You will also notice thick cladding on almost the entirety of the rear bumper to give it a tough look as well. Keen-eyed viewers will also spot a large spoiler on the top of the hatch and a raked rear windshield, which gives a sporty feeling.

Interior: Yet To Be Revealed

While Nissan is yet to reveal the interior of the Tekton, it has given us a sneak peek into the passenger side of the dashboard. From the sketches, we can see a boxy design with gold accents and body-coloured elements with a gloss black insert in the middle, hinting at a sophisticated and modern-looking interior.

Features: What Do You Want?

Details for the feature list of the Tekton are sparse. However, we expect Nissan to equip it with features such as LED headlamps, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting and a premium sound system. In terms of safety, it could get an ADAS suite, 6 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control and a 360-degree camera.

Powertrain: What Matters The Most

Nissan has not confirmed the powertrain options for the Tekton, but it could be powered by a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine with manual and automatic transmission options from its distant cousin, the Renault Duster, which is based on the same platform globally. There is also a possibility of a naturally-aspirated petrol engine to be offered alongside, although diesel and strong-hybrid powertrains are unlikely to make it to the Tekton.

Price And Rivals

While exact pricing is yet to be revealed, we expect the Nissan Tekton to be priced in the Rs 12-20 lakh (ex-showroom) range when it is launched in the second quarter of 2026. It will go up squarely against other compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor.

Nissan has been struggling to pull in volumes in India, and the ‘Tekton’ is its plan to make itself more relevant in the Indian market. So far, the Tekton looks like an attractive proposition with a classy design; however, the carmaker must work on ensuring its competitiveness given the stiff competition it faces from rivals in the segment.
