Here’re Five SUVs To Look Out For In India In 2022

In recent years, SUVs have grown to become one the hottest selling segments in India with intense competition between carmakers. As was the case this year, 2022 is also set to have plenty of SUVs coming our way. 

Here’s five such SUVs you should keep an eye out for in 2022:

Jeep 7-Seater SUV (Meridian)

Expected Launch: March 2022

Expected Price: Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards

It has already been spotted testing in the country multiple times, and has also been revealed in Brazil as the Commander. Jeep’s new seven-seater SUV will likely be called  ‘Meridian’ and is based on the Compass. Despite that, it gets its own identity especially around the rear. While it retains some tech from the Compass, it gains more premium bits as well as ADAS. The India-spec model could be powered by the Compass’ 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine and 2-litre diesel engines. It will take on the Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4, and MG Gloster. 

2022 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Expected Launch: August 2022

Expected Price: Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards

One of the best-selling models in the sub-4 metre SUV segment, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is set for a generation update. And it is set to be a pretty significant one with leaked images suggesting a sharper design and even the ‘Vitara’ name potentially being axed. The overhaul is set to continue inside with a bigger touchscreen, updated instrument cluster, and a Maruti-first single-pane sunroof. Under the hood, it could soldier on with the current model’s 105PS 1.5-litre petrol engine, paired with a mild-hybrid system.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio

Expected Launch: April 2022

Expected Price: Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards

After the Mahindra XUV700, the carmaker’s next big launch is set to be the next iteration of the Scorpio. Spotted multiple times, while it retains a similar silhouette to the current Scorpio, it looks larger, and is set for a variety of modern updates to its styling. The cabin is set to be more premium with a bigger touchscreen infotainment system, roof-mounted speakers, and a single-pane sunroof.  It will get the XUV700’s 2-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines in a lower tune, paired with a 6-speed manual and optional 6-speed torque converter gearbox. Select variants will likely get a four-wheel drivetrain with a low-range gearbox and off-road modes. It will be an alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Tata Harrier, and MG Hector.

Facelifted Audi Q7

Expected Launch: January 2022

Expected Price: Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards

After the facelifted Audi Q5, it is the facelifted Q7 that will be the carmaker’s next launch for India. The midlife refresh sheds the estate-like looks for a more SUV-like look, and will get a new dashboard layout more in line with the Q8. It will also be a petrol-only model, with a 340PS 3-litre petrol motor combined with a 48v mild-hybrid system under the hood. It will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drivetrain. It will rival the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, and Volvo XC90.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Expected Launch: October 2022

Expected Price: Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards

Another Jeep model on the way for India is the Grand Cherokee, set to return in its fifth iteration, and for the first time as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) model. It comes with evolved styling, and a straightforward cabin with all the bells and whistles. The model sold abroad is offered with a 297PS 3.6-litre V6 petrol, a 362PS 5.7-litre V8 petrol and new 2-litre four-cylinder petrol plug-in-hybrid engine option.  It will go up against the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, and the upcoming facelifted Audi Q7.
