Rainy days are fun, until your car says otherwise. Is it monsoon-ready?

By now, we are all tired of the hot summer season, and so are our AC compressors, putting in extra effort to keep us cool. The good news is that the rainy season is just around the corner, and it's time to go for those much-awaited trips to the ghats!

But before you set out this monsoon season, make sure that your cars are in perfect condition. To make things easier, we have curated a list of car maintenance tips that you should consider:

Check Your Tyres

Yes, the round things that your car sits on! Ensure that they are in perfect condition and that they provide the necessary grip. If aquaplaning is not on your to-do list, then ensure your tyres have at least 2.5 mm of tread depth. Avoid overinflating your tyres, unless you plan on sliding around! Furthermore, do a basic inspection of your tyres and make sure they are not worn out or have any cuts. Also, the average age of any tyres is usually around 40,000-50,000 km or 4-5 years.

Don't Drive Blindly

If you plan on not being blinded by the water on your windshield, get your wipers checked before the monsoon season truly arrives. The rubber on your wiper blades degrades over time, especially if you live in the hotter parts of the country, which is basically almost 70 percent of India :p. Also, ensure that the washer fluid is topped up to handle muddy splashes and dirt.

Lights Will Guide You Home!

When visibility decreases, you need an extra set of eyes, the car’s headlights. Your lighting system, including both headlights and fog lamps, should be working to help you see things clearly. Make sure to clean the lens properly, including indicators that you will need to turn safely.

Inspect Your Brakes

Wet terrains can give your brakes a little performance anxiety. Your brakes need extra time to stop your car on wet roads, so it is important to inspect your brakes. Check your brake pads for wear and tear, eliminate any noise that comes during braking and make sure that your brake fluid is topped up.

Use A Moisture Absorber

Moisture can build up inside your car, creating a foul smell that won’t make you feel welcome inside your own car. It would be helpful to keep a moisture absorber to prevent fogging and mold.

Check For Rusting

Rusting mostly occurs in old cars, especially if you live around the coasts. Rainwater may seep inside from the rusted panels. Check for visible rusting, and if there is even minor rusting, get anti-rust coating done, or if needed, change the part to ensure that matters don’t get worse. If you love your car, don’t give rainwater a home inside your car and take action quickly.

Install Mud Flaps

Mud flaps can be a saviour, especially during the rains. They act as a barrier, reducing the splashing of water, mud, and debris onto the car's body and undercarriage, minimising the risk of rust and corrosion.

Key Takeaways!

Your car can quickly turn into a drama queen if you don’t pamper her enough. Give it the love it deserves, or get ready for unwanted noises, squeaky wipers and sceptical braking. With cameras installed on every highway, you don’t want a video of your car aquaplaning going viral on social media.

Also, give your car a thorough TLC time-to-time, ensuring that all the mud and dirt are washed out and your vehicle shines bright again. If possible, put a cover on your car when it's parked.

If you keep these tips in mind and get your car serviced once, there are high chances that your car won’t trouble you and you will be able to enjoy those long drives with your friends and family.

Safety is not optional; it is essential. Consider it a non-negotiable to take care of your car. Stay ahead of the rain, not behind a tow truck.
