Berlin is known for its vibrant and chill lifestyle but I guess the folks at BMW Motorrad didn’t get the memo because there’s absolutely nothing chill about the latest M bike. The manufacturer has revealed its third M motorcycle, the M 1000 XR hyper tourer. Safe to stay, it has the M division’s mad characteristics all over.

The party piece of the hyper tourer is the 999cc, four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine based on that of the S 1000 RR. It produces a maddening 201PS at 12,750rpm and 113Nm at 11,000rpm. That’s a monstrous 31PS more than in the S 1000 XR. Oh, and it redlines at 14,600rpm if you can handle it. Top speed is a claimed 275kmph and it accelerates from 0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds. All that means it’ll absolutely obliterate all its sports touring rivals by a margin!
Special M treatment on the bike includes the M brakes with the blue anodised calipers, lightweight forged aluminium wheels as standard and M carbon wheels with the optional M Competition package, aero winglets and an Akrapovic slip-on exhaust to name a few.

The suspension setup includes a 45mm USD fork, aluminium double-sided swingarm and monoshock. Stopping this madcap tourer will be dual 320mm disc brakes with radial four-piston calipers at the front and a 265mm disc brake with single-piston floating caliper at the rear with switchable ABS as standard.
As expected, the M 1000 XR comes loaded with features like the 6.5-inch TFT instrument console, riding modes: Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race and Race Pro1-3, Dynamic Traction Control, wheelie control, quickshifter called “Shift Assistant Pro”, launch control, Hill Start Control Pro and more.

The world of adventure tourers has been heating up in this last week with Ducati launching the Multistrada V4 RS, the M 1000 XR’s direct rival. How the rivalry pans out, it’ll be an interesting one to watch for sure.
