The Kia Seltos is back in an all-new avatar, and it brings with it a sharp new design, modern interior layout, new features, and improved cabin space. And with this renewed focus, the Seltos is headed straight towards the newly revived Tata Sierra to bring heat into the rivalry and prove why the Seltos has been the most loved in this segment.
The Tata Sierra is one of Tata’s most iconic nameplates, but this time it comes with a more modern yet retro exterior design that pays homage to the original 1991 Sierra, a premium cabin experience, and a feature list that attracts many. But is it all enough to win against the new Seltos? Let’s find that out!
The new Seltos and Sierra both have a boxy and upright silhouette that gives them a commanding road presence. The Seltos’s design is sharp, especially with the redesigned front and rear profile, new headlights and connected taillights, body claddings, flush door handles, and 18-inch alloy wheels give the car a mature stance.

The Sierra’s appearance, on the other hand, has been designed to resemble the original 1991 Sierra, with the squared rear window and a blacked-out C-pillar. Other design aspects like the slim connected LED DRLs and taillights, 19-inch alloy wheels, flush door handles and a flat tailgate show how the design is a perfect balance between futuristic styling and nostalgic throwback elements.

Here is a detailed comparison of their size:

622 litres (+175 litres) |

From the table, it is evident that the Kia Seltos is longer than the Tata Sierra by a considerable amount. Apart from that, the Sierra wins in all aspects of dimensions, which means the space inside is relatively impressive. What surprises the most is a significantly larger boot on the Sierra, which is 175 litres larger!

Moving towards the interior, the differences between the Seltos and Sierra are easily noticeable. The Seltos’ dashboard looks more sporty with premium touches and the use of physical buttons. Standing in the front is a dual 12.3-inch screen setup comprising a touchscreen infotainment and another one for the driver’s display. Another key highlight inside the cabin is a 10-way electrically adjustable driver seat with lumbar support.

The Sierra’s dashboard carries a minimalistic layout, and taking the spotlight here is a triple-screen layout with two 12.3-inch displays and a 10.25-inch driver's display, more use of touch panels to use different controls, and a 12-speaker JBL Black sound system with a sound bar. Another special feature on the Sierra is the powered tailgate.

Apart from these differences, features that are common in both cars include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, multi-colour ambient lighting, drive and traction/terrain modes, wireless phone connectivity with the infotainment system, connected car tech, and rear window sunshades.

Speaking of safety on offer, both the cars come equipped with a Level-2 ADAS suite, a 360-degree camera with front and rear sensors, 6 airbags, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, all-wheel disc brakes, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The Kia Seltos is offered in three engine options, which are available with manual, clutchless manual, torque converter automatic, CVT, and DCT transmission options. The engine options include a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Here are the detailed specifications:

As can be seen, both cars offer a wide range of engine and transmission options to choose from. The engines on the Seltos have been tried and tested since 2019; they have proven themselves to be reliable options, and buyers will know what they’re putting their money into. On the other hand, Tata’s new petrol engines still need to prove their value. On paper, though, Sierra’s turbo petrol and diesel engines offer slightly more power and torque compared to the Seltos.
Pricing for both cars remains a surprise that will be revealed soon. Although Tata has released prices for some variants of the Sierra, the price for the top-of-the-line Accomplished Plus Diesel AT is yet to be revealed.
The Sierra starts at a tag of Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Prices for the Seltos, however, will be released on January 2, 2026.

Picking the more affordable SUV out of the two won’t be easy, but what’s certain is that both cars will come with sharp pricing. In the end, buyers will have to make a tough call between the two strong options.

Both the Seltos and Sierra may be brand new, but their missions are very different. The Seltos sticks to its formula with a sharper styling, premium feel with a touch of sportiness and a familiar sense of everyday usability. The Sierra, on the other hand, focuses on building a strong character with its retro design and long list of features that add to the premium appeal of the car. They’re walking two very different paths, and that’s exactly what makes this face-off more interesting.
Buyers will have to very strong options to choose from, and the final choice will, however, come down to whether you prefer a tried-and-tested versatility or a bold new identity that breaks the mould.
