Mercedes-AMG GT 63 and GT 63 Pro Arrive In India With All Guns highlights

Mercedes-Benz is currently on a roll in India, with multiple new car launches and updates in the past year or so. Whether it is about introducing an EV powertrain on their iconic G-Wagen or bringing a convertible Maybach, the German marque has constantly been on the accelerator pedal.

And there’s no stopping that as the German luxury marque just brought the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 and GT 63 Pro, both of which have been launched in India, at Rs 3 crore and Rs 3.65 crore, respectively. Both cars also mark the comeback of the AMG GT moniker in India, which was discontinued in 2020.

Both these cars are fast, swanky and drop-dead gorgeous! Here’s all you need to know about the two beasts…

Stunning From Every Angle…

The AMG GT is a car that you bring to a car meet and everyone goes wowww! The flagship GT model has also grown in size, when compared to the previous iterations of the sportscar. But it still looks very familiar as Mercedes has taken the evolutionary approach with its design.

The front is dominated by the large grille which houses the Mercedes logo that is positioned between the AMG grille with vertical slats. The lower end of the bumper has been aggressively styled and features massive air dams for that proper aggressive look. The swept-back LED headlights come with sleek LED DRLs that look sharp and nice.

It has grown from the sides as well, as it now is 182 mm longer and also has a 70 mm greater wheelbase to accommodate the four-seater layout. Its striking black alloy wheels (up to 21-inch) accentuate the sportiness, while the familiar long hood and coupe design is great to look at. The rear end looks aggressively styled with a quad exhaust system, and plenty going in the lower half of the bumper. The LED tail lights look slick while the sporty spoiler rounds off the overall design.

A Familiar Affair…

While the old GT had a proper cockpit-like dashboard with plenty of buttons, the new one looks more tech-forward. The design and layout is very much similar to the Mercedes-AMG SL 55. The highlights of the cabin include sport seats for the front passengers, a 3-spoke AMG-specific steering wheel, a 12.3-inch driver’s display and a vertically-oriented 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment. The AC vents have a turbine-style design to them and there is generous use of soft touch materials all around the cabin for a premium experience.

The AMG GT models now also have the practicality element with the new 2+2 configuration for the seats. Other features include a multi-zone auto AC and a Burmester sound system. Safety is taken care of by 8 airbags, a reverse parking camera, and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers.

The V8 Factor!

With EVs growing in number, and downsizing of engines becoming a common trend, we are happy to see a car like the AMG GT retain its old-school magic, carrying the mighty V8 under the hood.

For the GT 63 variant, you get a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that churns out 585 PS and 800 Nm. The top-spec Pro version generates a higher output of 612 PS and 850 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With so much power at its disposal, the Pro version is capable of sprinting from 0-200 kmph in just 10.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 317 kmph. Both versions of the AMG GT can go from 0-100 kmph in 3.2 seconds.

The AMG GT models will take on the Porsche 911 and Aston Martin Vantage. The AMG GT 63 is a car that you would pick if you have truly made it in life, and with the added two seats has now made it slightly practical as well, with a focus on the word slightly. Its V8 is a proven, engaging and a soulful unit that will make every drive feel therapeutic, but the main question remains - would you pick the AMG GT over the Porsche 911?
