New ‘Twin Peaks’ logo featured on the wheels, spare wheel and steering wheel.
Mahindra has discontinued Mystic Copper and Rocky Beige colour options for the Thar.
2-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel powertrains unchanged.
New updates should come at a small premium; Thar costs Rs 13.53 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards for now.
Mahindra has refreshed the Thar with an idle start-stop system and subtle updates that include new centre console toggle switches and the new ‘Twin Peaks’ brand insignia. The updated off-roader should begin reaching customers soon.
The Thar gets a new fuel-saving measure with a new auto idle start-stop system that automatically shuts off the engine after the SUV comes to a halt, for example, while waiting at a traffic light. The idle start-stop system is only present in the manual variants though.
Earlier, the Thar had a stack of indicators that seemed like toggle switches placed below the HVAC controls, of which three were dummy switches that didn’t operate any functions in the car, and the three to the left were indicators. Only the hazard light toggle was operational.
Mahindra has done away with the dummy switches and updated the stack of buttons below the AC controls with new toggle switches. The centre switch is for the hazard lights as before and the switches to its right operate the traction control system, hill descent control and central door locking (new feature). These functions were earlier operated by buttons placed on the right side of the steering wheel.
As before, the three ‘switches’ to its left are fixed in place with indicators for the passenger seat belt and passenger airbag (on or off).
The switches themselves seem more tactile than before; you wouldn’t have to take your eyes off the road to operate them.
Another small change is the deletion of one of the two USB-A ports that were present below the toggle switch stack.
Similar to the recently updated Bolero and Bolero Neo, the Thar, too, gets Mahindra’s ‘Twin Peaks’ logo on the centre caps of all wheels, including the spare wheel mounted on the tailgate. The new logo is also found on the steering wheel. As before, the Thar gets ‘Mahindra’ lettering above the front grille.
Mahindra has discontinued two of the Thar’s colours, Mystic Copper and Rocky Beige. The SUV is now available in Red Rage, Napoli Black, Aqua Marine and Galaxy Grey paint shades.
