Check Out The Top 5 Updates In The 2025 Mahindra Thar Facelift

The Mahindra Thar has always been an iconic nameplate for the Indian carmaker ever since it was introduced in 2010. In 2020, the Thar received a new generation which was a blockbuster success. However, with sales numbers going down, Mahindra has decided to give it a facelift with modern features and a minor cosmetic update. Priced from Rs 9.99 lakh(ex-showroom), here are the Top 5 updates you should know about in the Thar facelift:

Minor Exterior Updates

Changes made to the Thar’s exterior are minor and one needs a keen eye to spot them.  The silver inserts on the bumper return to give it a more upmarket feel and contrast look, while the grille is now body-coloured (the pre-facelift’s grille was finished in black). Besides this, Mahindra has added two new colour options in the Thar facelift called Battleship Grey and Tango Red (which replaces the Rage Red).

At the rear, the full-size alloy for the spare wheel makes a comeback after Mahindra had briefly replaced it with a steel wheel and the rear camera is now mounted on the spare wheel hub like its sibling, the Thar Roxx. The exterior of the Thar otherwise remains similar to the pre-facelift car with the iconic round headlamps, squared-off side profile and a butch silhouette. 

Looking Inwards

Moving on inside, this is where changes are noticeable. While entering the cabin, front passengers now get grab handles mounted on the A-pillar. You would also notice the steering wheel is now lifted off from  the Scorpio N and Thar Roxx for a more modern look.

For better comfort over longer drives, Mahindra has also added a sliding front armrest with storage space and a dead pedal in the automatic transmission variants. The power window switches have now been moved from the centre console to the doors for better ergonomics. For rear passengers, the facelifted Thar now gets rear AC vents. 

Some Much Needed Features

With it being almost half a decade since its launch, the Thar has got some much needed feature additions to keep it up to the times. Mahindra has armed the Thar facelift with a 10.25-inch touchscreen (replacing the older 7-inch unit) with a new UI, a new reverse parking camera, USB Type-C ports at the front and rear and a rear wiper with washer. Mahindra has also added an electronic release for the fuel lid, so no need to get out of the car while refueling. These features would be in addition to the existing set of equipment that includes 4-speaker sound system with roof mounted speakers, cruise control, electrically-adjustable outside rear view mirrors

Variant Variation

Mahindra has simplified the variant names to make life easier for customers. The old Thar was offered in AX Opt and LX trims which have now been renamed to AXT and LXT respectively. The AXT variant is available in rear-wheel drive format only, while the LXT can be had with both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive formats. 

Not So Heavy Price To Pay

Pricing for the facelifted Thar starts at Rs 9.99 lakh(ex-showroom) going up all the way to Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). You can check the pricing for all variants in detail here.

A favourite off-roader, the facelift for the Thar adds a much-needed dose of modernity to the old school charm it always had. While mechanically unchanged, the Thar retains its off-road capability by now adding a bit more convenience. However, we do wish Mahindra had made more significant changes that would have made this a proper facelift.
