The Thar 5-door is first of the SUVs on the list and is slated to debut on August 15, 2024

In recent years, Mahindra has been continuously upgrading their existing models, and introducing new exciting models in the Indian market. Showing no signs of slowing down, Mahindra recently revealed its plans to launch six new internal combustion engine (ICE) powered SUVs by 2030. We have tried to decode the SUVs that could be offered by Mahindra in the coming years.

Mahindra Thar 5-door

Mahindra Thar 5-door

First on the list, we have the iconic Mahindra Thar’s 5-door version, which will make its global debut on August 15,2024. The longer-wheelbase version of the Thar will be a larger and more practical alternative to the existing 3-door model. It will also get an upgraded cabin with added features for more comfort and convenience. Let’s keep in mind that everything comes at a cost, and we do expect the 5-door version of the Thar to carry a premium over the Thar 3-door which is currently priced from Rs 11.35 lakh to 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom).

New-gen Mahindra Bolero

It was revealed in 2021 that the Mahindra Bolero will get a generational update by 2026. It is expected to continue as a body-on-frame offering, and retain its brand image of being the work-horse SUV of the country. The Bolero is long overdue for a major update, one that fits the purpose of a rugged and robust offering. The new-gen model is expected to get the same 1.5-litre diesel engine with dimensions that suit the tax breaks and lower prices. With the new Bolero, we expect some new features and a slightly more modernized cabin. That being said, it could also get safety upgrades like added airbags and electronic stability control (ESC).

Mahindra XUV 1XO

Mahindra was one of the first carmakers to enter the micro-SUV segment, with the introduction of the KUV100. However, the KUV100 could not live up to the expectations, and was eventually a topic of history in the Indian car industry. Lately, the micro-SUV segment has become a very popular segment with cars like the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch. Mahindra recently filed a trademark and application for the XUV 1XO moniker, which makes us confident that Mahindra could re-enter the segment and launch the XUV 1XO in the coming years.

The other segment Mahindra is absent from is the compact SUV space and a new model could be introduced carrying the recently trademarked XUV 5XO moniker. It will be positioned between the XUV 3XO sub-4m SUV and the XUV700 midsize SUV. It will compete against other compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara. It is expected to be equipped with a host of modern features like dual-integrated displays for the infotainment and instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, ADAS and multi-zone climate control.

Mahindra XUV700 Coupe

One of the upcoming electric SUVs under development is the XUV.e9, a coupe version of the XUV.e8 which is the all-electric version of the XUV700. We believe that Mahindra could also bring out an ICE derivative as well for the XUV.e9, which could be positioned as an SUV-coupe version of the XUV700. With the masses accepting the coupe body style, Mahindra is preparing a larger alternative to the Tata Curvv, which is expected to launch soon. We expect the XUV.e9’s ICE counterpart to be available with both petrol and diesel engine options, same as the XUV700.

Mahindra Scorpio N Pickup

We expect Mahindra to stretch its portfolio of sporty utility vehicles by introducing a pick-up truck version of the Scorpio N. The Scorpio N Pickup was earlier showcased as a concept vehicle in August 2023 and it is meant to be introduced in some global markets like South Africa or Australia. If launched in India, it will rival the Isuzu V-Cross and Toyota Hilux. It might retain the same design elements as the rugged off-road-specific tyres, chunky bumpers, and the payload area as seen on the concept for the production-ready model. We expect Mahindra to launch it with the same 2.2-litre diesel powertrain of the Scorpio N SUV along with the 4x4 hardware. The pickup truck is likely to be launched in 2026 or later.
