Made-in-India Nissan Magnite FINALLY Aces The Global NCAP Crash Test With A 5-star Rating!

Try try till you succeed! Nissan took this quote seriously, and made sure the Magnite achieved a perfect score in the Global NCAP safety crash test. It is the made-in-India faceliftted model which also retails in South Africa.

For those who don’t know, the Magnite had initially scored a 2-star rating, followed by a 4-star rating and now, a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP test. The success was a result of adding necessary safety features as standard and making key safety revisions. 

As per the latest test, the Magnite has secured a 5–star rating in the Adult Occupant Protection and a 3-star rating in the Child Occupant Protection. Now, let’s get into the details of these two test parameters: 

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) 

Score: 32.21 out of 34

In the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier test, the Magnite scored 15.307 out of 16.00. In the Side Movable Deformable Barrier test, it secures 16.00 out of 16.00

Frontal impact was almost perfect, as the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck received good protection. The driver’s chest showed good protection, but the co-driver’s chest received adequate protection. 

The knee region for both driver and co-driver were marked green which meant good protection was provided. Their tibias received adequate protection. The footwell area was rated as

stable. The impressive thing was that even the body shell was rated as stable and capable of withstanding further loadings.

In the side impact, all parts received good protection. 

Child Occupant Protection

Score: 33.64 out of 49

As for the Child Occupant Protection, the Magnite secured 15.64 out of 24 in the dynamic test using the child restraint systems. For the 18-month-old’s front and side protection, the dynamic score was 7.64 out of 8 and 4 out of 4, respectively. 

The 3-year-old child’s dynamic score for the frontal impact and side impact was a disappointing 4 out of 8 and 0 out of 4, respectively. 

We are highly impressed by the Magnite’s perfect safety rating, and if you are in the market looking for a safe subcompact SUV, the Magnite should be considered.

Price And Rivals 

The Magnite is priced from Rs 6.12 lakh to Rs 11.72  lakh (ex-showroom). It rivals the Renault Kiger, Maruti Fronx, Toyota Taisor, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon. 

Nissan has managed to achieve the perfect score, especially in the Adult Occupant Protection, proving to be a safe SUV for Indian buyers who are looking for a subcompact SUV. With SUVs in the segment already scoring 5-star ratings, it had become important for the Magnite to achieve the same, and while I took some time, we are happy that it happened.
