The Land Rover Defender 110 is quite an iconic car, not just in India but also around the globe. What’s more iconic than the new Defender is its predecessor. To celebrate the older model, Land Rover had released a special edition, called the Defender 110 Trophy, earlier this year, and it has now been launched in India at Rs 1.30 crore (ex-showroom).
The Defender 110 Trophy Edition comes in two colour options – Deep Sandglow Yellow and Keswick Green. The former pays tribute to the Defenders who have participated in the Camel Trophy off-road competition that was supported by Land Rover for two decades. The Trophy Edition also gets a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels finished in black, shod with all-terrain tyres.
Other black elements include the bonnet, roof, ladder, roof rack, the entire upper body, wheel arches and even the snorkel. It comes with Trophy decals on the bonnet and C-pillar and a Trophy badge on the tailgate.

Inside, it gets new Ebony Windsor leather seats and aluminium sill plates and the dashboard’s accent is finished in the same colour as the exterior. Features-wise, nothing has changed since it comes with the same 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, wireless charger, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and more.

Specific to the Trophy Edition, it comes equipped with a special Trophy Kit that includes a roof rack, a raised air intake (snorkel), larger mudflaps, panniers on the C-pillar, and a roof ladder.
This kit gives it an overall cooler look, and personally speaking, the author adores that Deep Sandglow Yellow shade.

Powering the Defender 110 Trophy is a 3-litre diesel engine with 349 PS and 700 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Defender 110 is also available with a 2-litre turbo-petrol, a 5-litre supercharged V8 petrol, and a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine.
While there are no direct rivals for the Defender 110, it sees competition from the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90, purely on a price point basis. Otherwise, the ideal rivals for the Defender 110 should be the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Mercedes-Benz G-Class, as both are hard-core off-roaders first, luxury SUVs second.

As mentioned earlier, the Trophy Edition pays tribute to the Camel Trophy off-road adventure race that was held in the 80s and 90s. This isn’t the first time Land Rover has done the Trophy special edition of the Defender, as the previous model also had it. Land Rover supported the Camel Trophy race by providing support cars.
