It’s a great day if you were in the market looking for a premium electric SUV with over 500km of range, as Kia has just launched the EV9 in India. It is available in a single GT-Line AWD variant, which is priced at Rs 1.3 crore. It is Kia’s flagship electric SUV globally, and has been brought to India via the CBU (import) route.
Here’s are all its highlights:
At a length of over 5 metres, the EV9 is a huge SUV and there’s now denying that fact. And its design elements further up the ante on its grandeur dimensions with huge windows, chunky wheel arches and a tall tailgate.
It boasts Kia’s signature ‘Digital Tiger Face’ with the sleek LED DRLs, which look rather chic with the digital lighting patterns on the grille. The side profile looks massive, and so do the 20-inch ‘crystal-cut’ alloys. The rear sports a clean but long tailgate, which gets a sporty roof mounted spoiler and the sleek LED tailights round up the design of the EV9.
In India, it is available in 5 monotone body colours: Snow White Pearl, Ocean Blue, Pebble Gray, Panthera Metal, Aurora Black Pearl.
The interior of the Kia EV9 gets a rather busy-looking dashboard design. It features a multi-screen panel with integrated 12.3-inch infotainment and driver’s displays with a five-inch display at the centre for HVAC controls.

There are two dual-tone themes on offer: White and black, and brown and black. Despite being such a huge vehicle, the EV9 is a 6-seater only with a 2+2+2 configuration, which focuses on comfort for all three rows.
As a result, the features list is endless with equipment like 18-way powered driver seat with memory function, ventilated and heated first and second row seats, 8-way powered second row captain seats, auto ac, wireless phone charging, massaging function for second row captain seats, 14-speaker Meridian sound system, power tailgate, dual sunroof, and 64-colour ambient lighting.
To improve comfor for the first and second row passengers, the captain seats get extended leg supports for a lounge-like feel. Even the third row passengers get power recline seats, roof mounted AC vents, and USB type C ports (2 in every row).
Safety kit is expansive too, with features like 10 airbags, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, and level-2 ADAS features. Moreover, the EV9 also boasts a full five star rating granted by the Euro NCAP.
With a single variant on offer, the Kia EV9 makes use of a 99.8 kWh battery pack that powers dual motors with a combined output of 384 PS and 700 Nm. The setup has a claimed ARAI-range of 561km, and ofcourse, it supports DC fast charging, which can top up its battery from 10 to 80 per cent in just 24 minutes while using a 350 kW charger.
The ‘AWD’ in its variant moniker should make it apparent that its dual electric motors send power to all the four wheels of the EV9.
Despite being a family hauler, the EV9 is rather quick with a 0-100kmph time of just 5.3 seconds. It also gets Vehicle To Load (V2L) tech, which converts the car into a portable power bank so that you can use it to power other appliances.
At Rs 1.3 crore (ex-showroom), the Kia EV9 can be considered as a bigger alternative to similarly priced 5-seater EVs like the BMW iX, Mercedes EQS SUV and Audi Q8 e-tron.
