Making six airbags as standard is a good way to fill the brochure, but that doesn’t necessarily translate to a safer vehicle as structural integrity is what matters most

  • Hyundai makes 6 airbags as standard across the range.

  • Most cars already came with 6 airbags as standard.

  • Grand i10 Nios, Aura, Venue and Venue N Line to benefit from this announcement.

In light of increasing scrutiny around car safety and the upcoming Bharat NCAP tests, Hyundai has updated its entire lineup to now come as standard with 6 airbags. The carmaker has always been one to offer segment-first features and a rather expansive standard safety kit. And now, it’s the first OEM to do so by making six airbags as standard across the board.

Most of Hyundai's newer or recently updated offerings already come with 6 airbags as a standard fitment, but there were still a few which only came with two or four bags in their base-spec trims.

So it’ll be the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, Venue and Venue N Line that will primarily benefit from this particular safety implementation, along with future models to come. Alongside the six airbags, equipment like ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensor, manual IRVM and 3-point seat belts for all passengers is also offered as standard across the range.

Cars like the newly launched facelifted i20, Verna, Creta, Alcazar, Ioniq 5 and Tucson already came with six airbags as standard.

And as for the argument that car safety goes beyond just how many airbags there are in a vehicle – that will always make a case for itself, considering airbags are a passive safety measure. And irrespective of it being passive or active, it is actually the shell of the car and the material used within it that defines the rigidity of the vehicle.
