The Hyundai Creta N Line has just been launched in the country as a sportier alternative to the existing Creta. It gets the same engine, but a new gearbox, and a whole lot of cosmetic and a few mechanical tweaks, unlike the GT variants of the VW Taigun. Both represent the sportier avatars of their respective nameplates, so we thought a direct comparison was apt for making your buying decision easier. Let’s start with the design:
The Creta N Line, compared to the standard Creta, gets a distinctive identity – a sportier one. That is something that the GT variants of the Taigun don’t get. The aggressiveness is apparent throughout the design of the Creta N Line with its revised grille, larger 18-inch alloys, diffuser like element at the rear and the twin exhaust tips. And those red inserts throughout the exterior further ups its sporty stance.
On the other hand, the Taigun GT’s styling is very similar to the non-GT variants. Differences come in the form of different styling for the alloys and ‘GT’ badging all around as well as red brake callipers. They do get two exclusive Deep Black Pearl and Carbon Steel Grey Matte exterior hues, which look chic but are only available with the GT Edge variants and not the entire GT lineup.
The Creta N Line, too, gets a new exclusive Titan Grey Matte shade. Overall, the Creta N Line will stand out from its standard avatar, while the GT Line feels like a sleeper and blends in with its other variants.
The Creta N Line sports an all-back cabin contrasted by red inserts. It looks much sportier than the lighter shades used in the standard Creta. It also gets N Line badging and a N Line-specific steering wheel, which gives you the feel of a ‘special edition’ model.
The Taigun GT on the other hand gets a dual tone theme which is shared with the non-GT trims. The only difference is that it gets a sporty red ambient lighting compared to the cool white on the normal car and a different set of seat covers. There isn’t a similar sense of occasion feel like you do in the Creta N Line’s cabin, which looks properly sporty.

The Creta N Line, being the newer car of the two, keeps up with the times much better than the Taigun GT. It gets more features, bigger screens, and even ADAS functionality. That said, the Taigun GT isn’t really short of equipment, covering more than just the basics with features like ventilated seats and electric driver and co-driver seats. It’s just that the Creta N Line goes one step beyond to make your in-car experience a lot better.

Both the Creta N Line and Taigun GT get a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. But the former has slightly higher output and lower claimed fuel efficiency figures. On paper, Hyundai claims 8.9 seconds for a sprint from 0-100kmph. While we are yet to test that claim, we have the real world figures for the Taigun GT, which took 8.89 seconds and 10.08 seconds with the manual and DSG, respectively.

There isn’t much of a difference between the respective base variants of the Creta N Line and Taigun GT. But in the higher trims, the Creta N Line is Rs 70,000 dearer.
While both the cars offer similar on-paper specs, they are so much different from each other. The Creta N Line is more in-your-face, gets mechanical tweaks that make it more poised around corners than the standard one, and a bucket full of features.

The Taigun GT, in comparison, feels like a sleeper. It's subtle in its design cues and doesn’t shout about its ‘GT’ credentials. So if you want to stand out, make a statement wherever you go, the Creta N Line might be the pick for you. But if you are all about the subtle things in life and yet don’t want to compromise on performance and safety, the Taigun GT should be your pick. This is an on-paper verdict, but we’ll be bringing you a thorough real-world comparison when we get the two cars together, so stay tuned for that.
