The Fronx and Brezza are two sub-4m SUVs sold by Maruti. And while their core packages and appeal might be different, they fight it out in the same, highly cut-throat segment. The Fronx gets a 1-litre turbo-charged mill, while the latter’s 1.5-litre mill is free of any forced induction. So we line up the two for a good old real-world performance comparison:

Despite the discrepancy in outright displacement, the Fronx goes nearly head-to-head with the Brezza in terms of its output. The Fronx is slightly down on power, but thanks to its smaller displacement and turbocharged nature, it boasts a better torque figure than the Brezza.
Both the cars benefit from Maruti’s mild-hybrid technology, which helps eke out the maximum possible fuel efficiency figures. Here’s a story comparing the claimed fuel efficiencies of the Fronx and Brezza.

15.24 seconds |
Quarter Mile |

19.75 seconds @ 114.36kmph |
100-0kmph |
41.30 metres |
43.87 metres |
Surprise, surprise! Despite the similar output figures, the Fronx is much quicker to hit the 100kmph mark from standstill. Even in the quarter mile results, it's the Fronx that inches ahead, with nearly two seconds to spare. And the big disparity can be pinned down to three facts: 1. The turbo-charged nature of the Fronx’ engine. 2. The Brezza being an automatic. 3. The Brezza AT being nearly 200kg heavier than the Fronx turbo-manual.
We reckon the Brezza would have done slightly, if not significantly, better with its manual gearbox. But the Fronx’ Boosterjet engine doesn’t let its name down, and is truly an exciting motor to drive.
Even in terms of braking, the Fronx outperforms the Brezza, but the margin here isn’t too wide.

In the limited parameters which were used for this comparison, it is the Fronx that triumphs over the Brezza. It is clearly the more performance-oriented sub-4m SUV with its turbo-petrol engine and manual gearbox combo.
The Brezza, on the other hand, offers a more relaxed and smooth drive with its 1.5-litre engine and automatic gearbox combination. And despite the lack of forced induction, it has enough performance for all your daily chores and more.
