You can book the updated flagship sedan for a token amount of Rs 10 lakh

  • Styling changes include updated lighting, aggressive bumpers, new wheels and a more prominent front grille.

  • Cabin will be largely unchanged aside from plenty of optional kit.

  • Will retain the 340PS 3-litre TFSI turbo-petrol engine.

  • Will be available in the Celebration and Technology trims.

We know that Audi’s upper echelon of a flagship sedan, the A8L, got a midlife refresh in November 2021 and is on its way to India. But now, we finally have a specific date of arrival, as the updated flagship sedan will go on sale on July 12.

There are a fair bit of changes for the 2022 A8L starting with how it looks. It trades ‘corporate’ for a ‘sporty’ identity with a larger, more aggressive front grille complemented by a beefier front bumper. New wheels, bigger Digital Matrix LED headlights, a curvier set of OLED tail lamps and an extra dosage of chrome round off the changes outside.

Why fix something which isn’t broken? Audi’s taken that quite literally for the cabin, as the layout looks largely unchanged with dual screens on the dashboard being the stand out bit. That being said, those who prefer to be chauffeur driven do get some fun, with the optional executive rear-seat package which includes a set of 10.1-inch touchscreens, and a rear touchscreen remote to control the seat recline and other functions. Things like four-zone climate control, connected car tech, and powered front seats should make a return.

Powering the luxury sedan will be the 3-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol mill from before, paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system helping it make 340PS and 500Nm. Paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, there’s also performance on tap with a 0-100kmph sprint in 5.7 seconds.

Another crucial change from before is that the 2022 Audi A8L will be offered in the Celebration and Technology trims instead of a single trim. Pre-bookings are open for a token amount of Rs 10 lakh, with prices likely to be equivalent to the model it replaces at Rs 1.57 crore (ex-showroom). The facelifted sedan will take on other flagship offerings such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the outgoing BMW 7 Series.
