Armoured vehicles might be a novelty for the general public, but they’re daily fare for important political personalities and famous individuals. They provide not only a sense of safety to the occupants, but stay true to their word in case of an attack, thanks to well executed and thoughtful safety measures.

Audi’s flagship sedan, the A8L, is available in a Security version. Called the A8L Security, it probably is one of the safest luxury vehicles in the world. Don’t just take our word for it. Feel safe yet? That’s likely how the high-profile personalities, part of the recently hosted G20 summit, must have felt as the Indian government had leased a few A8L Securities for convoy purposes.

Now, you must be thinking, with such extensive safety revisions, the weight of the sedan must have skyrocketed. And you won’t be wrong. As a result, Audi has done away with the 340PS 3-litre six-cylinder engine, and plonked a 4-litre turbo-petrol V8 that produces 571PS and 800Nm. So leaving people in the dust or losing an attacker in a high-speed chase shouldn't be an issue , especially considering the A8L security tips the scales at around 4.5 tonnes, compared to the standard A8L's 2.5 tonne kurb weight.

Of course, all of this comes at a price, and a hefty one at that. The Audi A8L Security costs up to Rs 15 crore (ex-showroom), which is a whopping Rs 13 crore steeper than the standard A8L. But hey, you can’t put a price on safety, right? Well, it looks like Audi just did. The Audi A8L Security goes up against the security versions of the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
