The Sigma trim sits at the beginning of the Fronx’s variant list which includes a total of five trim options

The Fronx is the latest Maruti to be launched in India. It brings the SUV-crossover shape back to the carmaker’s portfolio along with the return of the ubiquitously loved 1-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine. Post its launch, we’ve got our hands on the base-spec trim of the Fronx, so without any further hold-up, let’s see what it packs with the help of these images:

Being the base-spec model, this doesn’t get any of the premium LED headlights or DRLs. The headlamp is a halogen projector unit and the LED DRLs and headlamps are available from the Delta+ trim. The chrome strap on the grille that connects the DRLs are common throughout the range.

No fancy niceties in this trim’s profile as it gets 16-inch steel wheels with plastic covers along with cladding on the wheel arches and side skirts. It also misses out on body-colored ORVMs with turn indicators, which are available in the one-above Delta trim. Alloy wheels are offered from the Delta + trim and the size (16-inch) is constant.

The Sigma trim gets LED tail lights, but they aren’t connected via the illuminated strip. A  spoiler is available as it is offered right from the base variant. Dual-tone shades are exclusive to the top-spec trim.

Dual-tone interiors with fabric seats are standard fitment, but the availability of features and creature comforts on the inside is rather sparse. It gets features like keyless entry, foldable rear seats, adjustable headrests, auto AC and tilt-adjustable steering but skips on an infotainment unit, steering-mounted controls, USB charging sockets, and wireless phone charging on offer. It also misses out on the push start/stop button, rear AC vents, and height-adjustable driver’s seat.

The safety kit on offer includes an electronic stability program, rear defogger, reverse parking sensors, hill hold assist, manual IRVM, and dual airbags. Moving up the range adds a reversing camera, 360-degree camera (top-spec), and six airbags to the list.

The base-spec Maruti Fronx can only be had with the 90PS/113Nm, 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with the 5-speed manual transmission. A 5-speed AMT is also available starting from the Delta trim, while the 100PS, 1-litre turbo-petrol engine can be had from the Delta + trim.

Priced at Rs 7.46 lakh, the Fronx’s base-spec trim does miss out on factory fit creature comforts as expected, but the safety and styling cues on offer are more than decent, making it a worthy overall package. Head here if you want to check out the mid-spec Delta+ trim in pictures or here if you want to compare the Fronx’s prices with its stablemates.

With prices ranging between Rs 7.46 lakh and Rs 13.13 lakh, the Fronx takes its fight to the likes of the Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the Renault Kiger.
