This week started off with details emerging on the upcoming Tiago EV and the launch date reveal of the BYD Atto 3. Volvo launched the updated 2023 versions of its entire lineup and Tata launched the Camo Edition for the Punch. A leaked document confirmed the Toyota Glanza’s CNG variants, while the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was spotted testing in Chennai for the first time.
Here’s everything automotive that topped the charts this week:
Maruti has marked the day for the price reveal of its flagship SUV, the Grand Vitara. It is a premium offering with multiple hybrid powertrain options with manual and automatic transmissions. Sense the nature of the Maruti Grand Vitara by reading our in-depth review.
Tata introduced a new Camo Edition for the Punch in the mid-spec Adventure and Accomplished trim levels, with optional Rhythm and Dazzle accessory packs, respectively. For a premium of Rs 15,000 over the respective variant it is based on, the special edition packs Foliage Green paintwork with a dual-tone roof (black and white), ‘Camo’ badges on the fenders and a dark grey finish for the grille and headlight surrounds.
Volvo updated its entire lineup by launching 2023 models for the XC40, XC60 and XC90 SUVs and the S90 sedan. With the introduction of a 48-V mild hybrid system in the XC40, Volvo electrified its entire lineup. The update comes with a price premium for all models except for the XC60, which received no changes.
Gone are the days of the glorious AMG V8 in the 2023 Mercedes-AMG C63 as it is now replaced by an inline four-pot engine with hybrid assistance. It has got enthusiasts all over the world lamenting its demise, but the news is not all bleak as the setup belts out a combined 680PS, around 200PS more than the outgoing model.
BYD is set to launch the Atto 3 in India on October 11. The marque’s second offering after the E6 electric MPV will be an electric SUV that will rival the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV. It’ll be larger than four-meters and is expected to get multiple powertrain options between a 50kWh and 60kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP-claimed range between 345km and 420km.

Powertrain details for the India-spec models haven’t been released yet, however, the most potent electric motor has an output of 325PS/605Nm with a claimed range of 417km.

The CNG kit will be available with both manual and automatic variants, and will have a reduced output of 77PS in comparison to the 90PS in petrol mode. With the availability of a CNG kit, the Glanza could become the first premium hatchback to be offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit.
