Tata has been building up the debut of its first electric hatchback, the Tiago EV, with multiple teasers. It’ll break cover on September 28 and is set to become the third electric vehicle in the Indian marque’s lineup, along with the Nexon EV and Tigor EV.

Now, the latest teasers have confirmed that it will pack connected car technology and leatherette seats; two features that are missing in the ICE-Tiago. Fast charging compatibility for the powertrain has also been confirmed, although we don’t know the quantum of its charging capacity. Previous teasers confirmed that features like regenerative braking and cruise control will be borrowed from the Nexon EV and is something that isn’t available with the Tigor EV currently.

Rest of its features list should be on par with the ICE-powered Tiago that gets a seven-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto climate control, cooled glovebox, eight-speaker Harman sound system and steering-mounted controls. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors should be offered as safety equipment.

The Tiago EV could be offered with the Tigor EV’s powertrain, which gets a 26kWh battery pack that powers the 75PS electric motor. The setup has an ARAI-claimed range of 306km on the electric sedan and is compatible with fast charging. As mentioned before, fast charging for the Tiago EV is imminent, which means its battery could be recharged from 0-80 percent in 65 minutes. It could also get a slightly smaller battery and less powerful motor to give the sedan some breathing space.

Tata’s electric hatchback will have a segment to itself as it won’t have any direct alternative. Prices for it could start from Rs 10 lakh onwards, which would make the Tigor EV its closest rival.
