Finally, we have an official word about the BYD Atto 3’s debut here in India. The electric SUV will be unveiled on October 11 and will be sold alongside the existing E6 electric people mover. It should be priced from around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).

Although the Hyundai Kona and MG ZS EV are its more direct competitors, the BYD Atto 3 is a larger EV with its 4.45-metre length. It features a sleek bodywork on the outside, with an interesting and unconventionally designed cabin.

Inside, it has powered front seats and a rotating touchscreen, as we’ve seen in the E6 MPV, albeit it is larger at 12.8 inches. But the similarities stop here. The international-spec Atto 3 is more premium with features such as a panoramic sunroof, digital driver display, LED headlights and taillights, wireless phone charger, seven airbags and 360-degree camera. Keep in mind that the features list of the India-spec SUV could be slightly different.

Nevertheless, we expect the SUV to offer driver-assistance and active safety features (ADAS) such as adaptive headlights, forward collision prevention and blind spot detection.

The Atto 3 SUV is expected to come with Blade battery pack options in 50kWh and 60kWh sizes and a range of 345km to 420km (WLTP) depending on the variant. It’ll be powered by a 204PS e-motor and will offer a 0-100kmph sprint time of 7.3 seconds.

The BYD Atto 3 will initially be imported in the form of completely knocked down (CKD) kits to be locally assembled. Later in 2023, the carmaker could set up local manufacturing in India.
