Shares the powertrain and underpinnings with the Aprilia GPR 250R

Aprilia GPR 250S Launched In China

Aprilia has launched the 2022 Tuono 250 streetfighter in the Chinese domestic market under the ‘GPR 250S’ moniker. The bike will act as the naked alternative of the 2021 GPR 250R, a quarter-litre supersport launched in China last year.

In terms of appearance, the GPR 250S retains the same design as the Aprilia Tuono 125. It draws inspiration from its bigger siblings with a muscular and aggressive body design. The motorcycle gets a similar sharp-looking semi-fairing design with sculpted fuel tank and features a twin-LED headlight setup with LED DRLs. Unlike its faired sibling’s dual seat setup, the GPR 250S gets a well-cushioned single-piece saddle. Summing up, the bike looks properly sporty and aggressive.

Propelling the 2022 Aprilia GPR 250S is the 249cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine taken over from the supersport GPR 250R. It churns out the same power and torque figures at 27.8PS and 21.5Nm, and is mated to a six-speed gearbox. However, its Austrian rival, the KTM 250 Duke, has a more potent heart which delivers 30.4PS and 24Nm.

Aprilia GPR 250S Instrument Cluster

The 250S shares its underpinnings and suspension with its fully-faired sibling and so is suspended on a 41mm USD fork up front and a rear monoshock linked to the asymmetrical swingarm. Braking duties are handled by the same units as the faired bike: a 300mm disc up front and a 218mm disc in the back, with dual-channel ABS as standard.

The bike rolls on 17-inch wheels and tips the scales at 145kg (kerb weight), which should make it an agile and nimble bike to flick around town. Further, the bike also features a digital instrument cluster, but misses out on smartphone connectivity, something that would have been appreciated had it been made available.

Aprilia has priced the bike at 24,800 yuan, equivalent to Rs 2.85 lakh (without Indian taxes and duties), which is a slightly high asking price for a 250cc bike. However, this bike will not be heading to our shores, but Aprilia has plans to launch 250-300cc single-cylinder motorcycles here in India.

You can check out the KTM 250 Duke, Bajaj Pulsar N250, Suzuki Gixxer 250, Yamaha FZ 25 and Bajaj Dominar 250 naked motorcycles already available in India.
