To capitalise on the festive season car sales in India, carmakers have launched special editions of their existing models to pique consumer interest.

Just ahead of the start of the festive season, we have seen special launches from Jeep, Skoda, Renault, Audi, MG and Mercedes-Benz in September. These are nothing but limited / special edition versions of existing models that get certain specific additions and features to build up the excitement in the market, where sales start to peak.

For the customer, this means exciting times ahead if you are in the market for a new car. Here are all the special edition car launches from September 2023:

Jeep Compass and Meridian

Jeep has introduced the Compass Black Shart Edition in India. This comes with a black Jeep logo, Black Shark badging on front fenders and gloss black 18-inch alloys. Meanwhile the lower portions of the SUV are finished in gloss black as well and the roof and body claddings get body colour finish. Take a closer look at the updates made here

Meanwhile, the Meridian Overland edition is based on the top Limited Plus model and gets exterior updates like newalloys, body-coloured cladding and a revised grille along with certain interior updates, which have been detailed here.

Both these continue to be powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel engine. The Compass also comes in a 2WD AT trim which has lowered the entry point of the Compass diesel.

Renault Kiger, Triber and Kwid

Renault has rolled out the Urban Black Edition for its Kiger, Triber and Kwid. Only 300 units each will be produced. This limited edition is based on the top-end variants and comes with a new black shade on the Kwid and the Triber. The Kiger is already offered with this paint option.

These limited edition versions come with silver finished skid plates, puddle lamps and ambient lighting (only on the Kiger). Meanwhile, Renault is offering a 9.66-inch Smart Mirror Monitor on the Triber and Kiger. More details on the same, including prices here.

Audi is offering the Q5 Limited edition in a new Mythos Black paint option with the Black Styling Package Plus. This comes with blacked out logos, grille and roof rails. Further, the window stripes as well the singleframe grille border are finished in black as well for a sportier look. More details here

The flagship Q8 Limited Edition meanwhile is offered in Mythos Black, Glacier White and the Daytona Grey colour options. On the outside, it gets the S-line package which includes Audi’s signature singleframe grille in black, Matrix LED headlamps and black roof rails. The car rides on 21-inch graphite grey alloys. The MG Astor Blackstorm comes with an all-black treatment on the outside and inside. MG has specced this limited edition with black alloy wheels, grille, door trims, bumpers, headlamps, and roof rails along with Blackstorm badging. Meanwhile, the brake callipers are painted red for contrast.

The insides get all-black upholstery with red stitching on the seats, steering wheel and door trims. MG has offered red accents for the AC vents and the seats come with a chequered-pattern fabric insert. Click this link for more details on this variant

Mercedes G63 Grand Edition

Only 25 units of the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG Grand Edition have been allotted for India. This will probably be one of the last few models before the updated version comes out next year.  Existing Maybach, S-Class and Mercedes-AMG customers will get the first dibs on the G63 Grand Edition.

This limited edition comes with a few cosmetic updates like an all-black exterior with highlights in Kalahari Gold Magno. Meanwhile on the inside, there is  an all-black theme with gold highlights. Black Nappa leather is used for the seats with gold stitching. Check it out in its glory here

These limited edition models offer an exclusivity from the regular variants and customers are likely to enjoy the standout offerings much more. Also, the festive season isn’t over yet and we suspect more special edition models are inbound. Let us know which of these would you prefer if you are in the market for a new car.
