Mahindra has confirmed that it will launch the all-electric XUV300 by April 2023. The all-electric SUV was spotted testing in the outskirts of Chennai recently. It will be the next electric car launch from the SUV giant, and will square off against the Tata Nexon EV and the upcoming MG mass market EV.

Confirming the launch timeline, Veejay Nakra, CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive division, said,  “The next immediate launch on the EV front on the SUVs would be the XUV300. We are currently looking at launching that product in Quarter-3 or Quarter-4 of FY23”.

The XUV300 electric, which debuted at Auto Expo 2020 as a concept, will be based on the same platform as the standard SUV. However, this being an EV, it gets a redesigned front fascia, new LED headlights and tail lamps, EV-specific alloy rims, and plenty of blue highlights. That said, the overall silhouette remains similar to the ICE model.

Inside, the electric SUV gets bespoke dials and a larger touchscreen infotainment system and EV-specific instrumentation. Also, it gets an all-black theme rather than the black-beige combo in the ICE-powered model. For a more detailed rundown of the differences between both the SUVs, click here

Mahindra is yet to unravel the specifications of the SUV. However, its benchmark is the Tata Nexon EV, which gets a 129PS electric motor, paired with a 30.2kWh battery pack. The all-electric Tata has an ARAI-claimed range of 312km.

The all-electric Mahindra XUV300 is expected to be priced from Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
