India, buckle up because VinFast has officially arrived! But who are they? To really understand VinFast, we need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture: Vingroup, one of Vietnam’s most powerful and ambitious conglomerates. So let’s dive into the story of who they are, what they’re building globally, and what they’re bringing to India
VinFast is just one part of a massive ecosystem. The parent company, Vingroup, was founded in 1993 and has grown into Vietnam’s largest private enterprise. Their businesses touch almost every aspect of modern life:
VinHomes: Vietnam’s largest real estate developer, building smart cities and modern housing projects.
VinMec: A chain of international-standard hospitals and healthcare services.
VinUniversity: A world-class university in partnership with Cornell and the University of Pennsylvania.
VinPearl: A luxury hospitality and resort brand across Vietnam.
VinFast: their global automotive arm, focused entirely on electric mobility.
The philosophy is clear: “To create a modern, connected lifestyle where homes, healthcare, education, leisure, and mobility all come together seamlessly.”
At the heart of VinFast’s global ambitions is its state-of-the-art manufacturing complex in Hai Phong, Vietnam. This is one of the most advanced automotive facilities in Southeast Asia, with an annual production capacity already in the hundreds of thousands.
It’s fully integrated, too, from body stamping, painting, assembly, to testing. The plant follows international standards, with automation and smart manufacturing at its core.

VinFast’s international markets include North America, i.e USA & Canada, Europe, the Middle East, India, the Philippines & Indonesia. In its home market, Vietnam, VinFast has become the top car seller, and globally, the brand has crossed one lakh vehicle sales in the first nine months of 2025.
Showing that VinFast is playing on the world stage, not just at home.
VinFast officially broke ground in February 2024 on its EV manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi (Tuticorin), Tamil Nadu.
The facility spans 400 acres with an annual production capacity set at about 50,000 EVs, with the ability to scale to 150,000 based on demand and with an investment of around Rs 4,000 Crores or approximately US$500 million.
A local ecosystem is getting built with component sourcing, dealership network, parts, service, battery recycling, etc. The VF6 / VF7 are the first two models to be assembled here to ramp up localisation soon.

VinFast made its first big impression in India at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show, where the VF6 and VF7 were showcased. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Crowds were drawn to the futuristic design, the tech-focused interiors, and the promise of a new EV player with serious global credibility. Then, before the launch event, VinFast also displayed the cars at various public spaces in India, like malls and airports, and they got good attention there too.
We were even invited to experience the cars in Vietnam for a drive experience and came back impressed with the build quality, driving performance and technology on offer. Speaking of which, it's now time to talk about the cars.
Early in September 2025, VinFast announced pricing for the VF6 and the VF7, two stylish electric SUVs aimed straight at India’s urban buyers.
The VF6
It is a compact city-friendly EV. Think of it as an alternative to premium compact SUVs, but fully electric. It comes with modern, sharp styling, a digital cockpit, and clever use of space, perfect for first-time EV buyers who still want tech and flair.
Starting ex-showroom price: Rs 16.49 lakh
Battery: 59.6 kWh pack, claimed range 468 km on the base trim.
Premium EV Features: ADAS, 360° camera, wireless charging, ventilated seats, etc.

The VF7
Is the bigger sibling. A mid-size SUV that’s more premium, more powerful, and frankly, the one that’ll turn heads. With futuristic styling, sharp DRLs, and bold proportions, it feels international. Inside, you get a big infotainment screen, connected features, ADAS tech and plenty of cabin space, enough even for our larger-than-life Editor - Tushar!
Price starts at Rs 20.89 lakh (ex-showroom)
Higher trims include a dual-motor/AWD option, a larger battery (70.8 kWh), longer range (up to 532 km in some trims)
Rich feature set: panoramic roof, premium materials, ADAS safety systems, etc.

Both SUVs are built on VinFast’s new-generation EV platform, and globally they come with multiple powertrain options, including two battery pack sizes, claimed ranges of up to 400–500 km depending on the variant and a peppy AWD variant too.
VinFast are also offering some very unique perks in terms of warranty periods for the battery packs with an unprecedented 10-year 2,00,000km battery warranty. Plus also industry-leading warranty durations on the cars. The VF6 gets a 7-year/1.6 lakh km cover, and the VF7 is covered for 10 years/2 lakh km.
So who is VinFast? They are more than just a new carmaker. They are the face of Vietnam’s global ambition, backed by one of Asia’s biggest conglomerates. They are bringing world-class EVs like the VF6 and VF7 to Indian customers. And most importantly, they are committing long-term to factories, jobs, and real investment in India’s future.
Early in 2026, we are expecting their third offering, but what will it be? The range is quite wide too, from small city runabouts like the Minio Green, VF 3, Premium offerings like the VF 8 and flagship VF 9 to MPVs and pick-ups too! Which one do you think will be from their lineup of EVs?
As India races toward cleaner mobility, VinFast wants to be at the centre of that journey, bold, ambitious, and ready to compete. And this is just the beginning of VinFast’s India story.
